Mohamed Salah brought his Liverpool career to a close this past weekend, but his final season with the club was marred by off-the-field issues.

Back in late 2025, after a 3-3 draw with Leeds United, which he started on the bench, Salah hit out at Arne Slot and the football club.

He was eventually brought back into the eleven and started the majority of games in 2026. But the Liverpool winger then appeared to aim a dig at Slot in a social media post earlier this month, and Graeme Souness now thinks the player has let himself down with his conduct this season.

Is Mohamed Salah Liverpool’s greatest EVER player?

Graeme Souness unhappy with Mohamed Salah’s conduct before leaving Liverpool

Speaking to Sky Sports, Souness conceded that the Egyptian will go down as one of the all-time greats.

But he is disappointed by the way Salah has been acting, and suggested the 33-year-old tried to drag Slot down with him.

He stated: “He should have gone gracefully and he’s not done that. He should have accepted his situation and not come out with the selfish words he came out with after the Leeds United game.

“Accept your best days are behind you. Don’t come out and blame everyone else.

“He’s tried to drag the manager down with him. I find that so disappointing.

“He is a great player and will go down in history as a great player. But I just think he’s let himself down in the way he’s conducted himself leaving Liverpool.”

Mohamed Salah’s next club

Salah playing his final game for Liverpool was a sad moment for fans, even if his last campaign at Anfield did not quite go to plan.

Many supporters will no doubt be keen to see what the Reds icon does now and will have one eye on his next club.

However, Salah has spoken about his future this week and admitted he is yet to make a decision on who he will sign for.

He said: “I am still assessing things. I have time now.

“I am going to the World Cup and then everything will become clear. If there is a good opportunity before then, I will decide, and if there isn’t, I will make my decision after the World Cup.”
