Liverpool make the first move to beat Chelsea and sign former Wolves winger now tearing up Portugal

Liverpool are continuing to explore attacking options to add to the squad this summer, and a former Premier League winger could be the target Arne Slot has been looking for.

We are all preparing for a massive moment at the end of this season. Mohamed Salah leaves Liverpool after nine years, and once we say goodbye to the Egyptian, someone is going to have to step into that attacking void.

Sporting Lisbon’s Francisco Trincão is one name now high on Liverpool’s list. It’s not just the Reds who want the former Wolves winger, though.

Liverpool set for battle with Chelsea over Francisco Trincão

According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool have now made their interest in Trincão more serious, with the Reds said to have taken ‘concrete steps’ towards signing the Sporting attacker.

The report claims Chelsea are also keeping a close eye on the situation, while Arsenal and other Premier League clubs have been mentioned as admirers too.

However, Liverpool’s stance appears to be the most advanced at this stage, with the club seemingly moving with ‘real intent’ as they assess possible Salah successors.

The Portugal international is tied down at Sporting until 2030 and his deal reportedly includes a €60m release clause, which works out at roughly £52m. That gives Sporting a clear figure to point towards and leaves them in a ‘strong negotiating position’ if Premier League clubs decide to push.

The 26-year-old has rebuilt his reputation impressively in Lisbon. After a difficult spell in England with Wolves, where he showed flashes but never truly settled, Trincão now looks a far more mature and productive player.

Like many modern attackers, he can play both flanks and does some of his best work in a central No.10 role. That versatility is clearly part of the appeal for Liverpool. Slot’s attack needs players who can move across the front line, create from central areas and still offer output in wide positions.

This season, Trincão has delivered six goals and 11 assists in Liga Portugal.

You can only pick ONE player for Liverpool to sign this summer, who is it?

Chelsea’s interest is no surprise either. They and Liverpool often seem to scout in similar markets. But BlueCo have been fast and loose with their spending in recent years, and their squad is already crowded with wide attacking options.

At Anfield, there may be a clearer route to meaningful minutes and genuine contention, especially with Salah’s exit changing the shape of Liverpool’s attack.

It makes Trincão yet another winger to monitor closely as we move towards the opening of the summer transfer window.
