Liverpool have been linked with a move for Assan Ouedraogo, with talk of a release clause in the 20-year-old’s contract emerging.

Ouedraogo’s management spoke to the Reds back in 2023, but at the time, a move was not pushed ahead.

But Liverpool moving for the midfielder again this year has once again been mooted. However, he will not be available via a release clause this summer.

You can only pick ONE player for Liverpool to sign this summer, who is it?

Liverpool target Assan Ouedraogo doesn’t have €40m release clause

Currently on the books of RB Leipzig, Bild now report that the Bundesliga outfit have no interest in letting the reported Liverpool target move in the next window.

Leipzig are closing in on securing Champions League football for next season, and are in a strong position when it comes to negotiating as a result.

They say that Ouedraogo’s ‘contract, which runs until 2029, does not contain a release clause’, and Leipzig are not planning to let him leave for the €40m fee that has been suggested.

Crucially, though, they add that the German side and Liverpool do have a good relationship amid a number of previous deals being struck in the past, including for the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai.

That is at least one bit of positive news for the Reds, who want to sign Yan Diomande from Leipzig to strengthen their attack.

Jurgen Klopp’s verdict on Assan Ouedraogo

But when it comes to Ouedraogo, it does not appear as though a move will be happening, even if Jurgen Klopp thinks the Liverpool target is a great player.

Klopp praised Ouedraogo last month when Peter Crouch asked him about players fans should look out for.

He said: “I don’t think you will have heard of him, but Assan Ouedraogo, he plays for Leipzig and he made a massive impression.

“Very young, 19-year-old midfielder, very tall, really good dribbler, stuff like that, good sense for space and the goal. Injured right now, but if he can play the rest of the season he could be a good choice.”

Ouedraogo has three goals and four assists in 18 matches across the 2025/26 campaign.
