Liverpool have entered into talks with the agents of Schalke midfielder Assan Ouedraogo.
The Reds have been surprisingly linked with a move for the 17-year-old midfielder over the past couple of weeks.
And now, according to German journalist Florian Plettenberg, conversations have begun with Ouedraogo’s management. However, reporting on Twitter, Plettenberg said that Liverpool aren’t the only one chatting directly to the youngster’s people.
“Eintracht Frankfurt has entered the race for Assan Ouedraogo!” says the journalist. “SGE bosses have inquired about the 17 y/o and are aware of all the financial details. Boss Krosche with a very high opinion about the player.
“SGE believes he’s capable of earning a significant spot in the squad starting from the new season.
“Leipzig, Bayern, Milan, Frankfurt, Liverpool, Neapel [Napoli] … His management in several talks now. BVB [Dortmund] no chance.”
Liverpool get serious over Ouedraogo
Looking at the list of teams supposedly in for Ouedraogo, this isn’t going to be an easy race for Liverpool to win.
Bayern are of course always a danger when it comes to battling for any German player. If the 6 foot 4in midfielder is as good as he looks, then the record Bundesliga champions will push hard.

Leipzig are another to watch. Their reputation for developing young players before granting them big moves is legendary.
Frankfurt themselves are also developing a similar reputation, while both Napoli and in particular Milan have good track records with giving youngsters a chance.
Liverpool shouldn’t count themselves out, though. With Jurgen Klopp at the helm they’re definitely in this race. No matter the pull of the domestic clubs in Germany, Klopp is still the best manager hailing from the country. That’s got to count for something.
As seen most recently by the inclusion of summer signing Trey Nyoni in first-team training yesterday, there is a clear pathway open at Anfield, too.
There won’t be any shame in losing this one, but Ouedraogo looks a rare talent. Keep pushing, Reds!
