Liverpool need to make a statement signing in midfield this summer, and maybe more than one. Enter Porto midfielder Victor Froholdt.
Arne Slot’s side have lacked physicality, legs and control too often this season, and Curtis Jones’ uncertain Liverpool future means it could be an even bigger recruitment job.
The 20-year-old has enjoyed a superb first season in Portugal, and Liverpool are now said to be looking closely at him. They are not alone, though, with Arsenal and Newcastle also credited with interest in one of the Primeira Liga’s breakout stars.

Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle showing interest in Victor Froholdt
According to Bold, Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle are all showing major interest in Froholdt after his impressive season at Porto.
The Danish outlet claims the three Premier League clubs have been watching his development closely, with the report describing them as showing ‘great interest’ in moving for him this summer.
Froholdt only joined Porto from FC Copenhagen last summer, and his contract runs until 2030. The report states that his deal includes a release clause worth ‘635 million Danish kroner’, which works out at roughly £73m.
That is a huge figure for a player who is still only 20. However, it is easy to see why Liverpool would be intrigued in bringing him to Anfield. Froholdt is an all-action central midfielder who brings running power, intensity and end product.
In the Portuguese league this season, he has made 32 appearances, scoring six goals and providing six assists. The most interesting part of his profile, though, may be what he can offer without the ball.
Nicklas Bendtner praised Froholdt earlier this season (via OneFootball), saying he is ‘tireless’, ‘creates a lot of space’ and is ‘incredibly effective in pressing’.
You can only pick ONE player for Liverpool to sign this summer, who is it?
Who should Richard Hughes be targeting above all…
That sounds exactly like the kind of midfielder Liverpool have been missing.
Slot’s team need more energy in central areas. They need players who can close space, recover quickly and make the press feel aggressive again. Froholdt fits that idea, even if the financial side makes this a difficult deal.
£73m would be a lot for a player with one full season at Porto behind him. But release clauses are not always final prices, and Liverpool may feel there is a deal to be done below that figure.
