Liverpool were seemingly aiming to take advantage of West Ham United’s struggles this season to improve their own team.

With Mohamed Salah leaving, Jarrod Bowen was mooted as a potential replacement for the Egyptian.

Elsewhere, midfielder Mateus Fernandes has been discussed as an option for Liverpool, who have a lack of quality depth in the centre of the pitch right now. But the Hammers do not want to sell either player.

Jarrod Bowen and Mateus Fernandes not for sale

TeamTalk have shared an update on the duo on the back of Michael Owen saying Bowen should be signed as a replacement for Salah.

Speaking this week, the ex-Liverpool striker said: “How did you know? I’ve said that to a couple of my mates the other day. I said if I had one player now, obviously Jarrod Bowen’s a legend of a player.

“West Ham, you know, they adore the man and rightly so. But if West Ham went down, yeah, he would fit for me. I think he’s absolutely brilliant.”

Unfortunately for Owen, it is reported that along with Crysencio Summerville, West Ham plan to ‘block all approaches’ for the aforementioned players as long as they are able to avoid Premier League relegation.

Whether that actually happens in the next few weeks remains to be seen, however.

After losing at the weekend, the Hammers have slipped into the relegation zone and now sit one point behind Tottenham.

Spurs have won their last two Premier League games, but do have tough meetings with Leeds United and Chelsea coming up.

Should West Ham stay up, Liverpool have alternative options to replace Salah once the transfer window opens in June.

Yan Diomande has been the main name linked over the course of 2025/26, while PSG winger Bradley Barcola has been mentioned a lot over the last couple of weeks.
