A number of different managers have been linked to replace Arne Slot amid Liverpool’s poor form.
The Reds drew 3-3 with Leeds United on Saturday, meaning they have won just two of their last 10 Premier League matches, the same number as their most recent, relegation-threatened opponents.
Fans are tired of Slot, and talk continues over who could replace the Dutchman when and if he is dismissed.
Oliver Glasner has been linked, though the reports over a potential move for the Austrian are mixed.
FSG can easily recoup the cost of sacking Arne Slot with the right replacement 💰
Meanwhile, it has previously been said that Xabi Alonso would join Liverpool if the job became available.
Real Madrid could replace Xabi Alonso with Zinedine Zidane
Real Madrid are second in La Liga and have won just one of their last five league matches under the Spaniard.
The relationship between Alonso and his players is not thought to be great, and talk of a potential sacking is heating up.
BBC Sport have now shared an update on the future of the ex-Reds midfielder and mooted a potential replacement.
They say that if Alonso were to be sacked in the next week, don’t be surprised if a move is made to try and bring Zinedine Zidane, who won three Champions Leagues with Los Blancos, back to the club.
B-team coach Alvaro Arbeloa is another potential option to replace Alonso, who was linked to Liverpool prior to Slot’s arrival.
Why didn’t Xabi Alonso join Liverpool after Jurgen Klopp left?
Alonso commented on replacing Jurgen Klopp in the Anfield dugout last summer.
He was among the options considered as the German’s successor but chose to stay at Bayer Leverkusen.
Explaining why that was the case, he seemed to confirm he was simply happy with what he had at Leverkusen, rather than looking at what could have been at Anfield.
He said: “All these decisions, they need to be thorough. You need to really think about them. And it was more about what I had, not what I’m missing.
“For sure, my bond with Liverpool is there and it’s still there. So there’s no, any kind of issue with that.”
Obviously, his situation at Madrid is now very different so if the Liverpool job were to become available, he could be much more inclined to join.
