Liverpool fans have found another reason to complain about Arne Slot, ‘it’s bizarre’

Arne Slot is rapidly losing favour with Liverpool supporters this season.

During a run of nine defeats from 12 matches in all competitions, fans wanted Oliver Glasner to replace the Dutchman.

Their dire run ended last weekend with a 2-0 win over West Ham United, but the mood quickly soured once more after the meeting with Sunderland on Wednesday.

Slot was criticised by fans for how he has treated Federico Chiesa, who stopped the Black Cats from scoring a second goal after coming on late in the clash.

Before that, his inability to manage the Liverpool squad was highlighted.

FSG can easily recoup the cost of sacking Arne Slot with the right replacement 💰

“Let’s say the cost is £15m… That is the amount that you get in prize money for finishing roughly five places higher in the Premier League. Even if you finish one or two places higher than you would have done otherwise but make it into the Champions League as a result, that’s about £80m in extra revenue virtually guaranteed.”

Liverpool fans angry about Arne Slot’s use of Rio Ngumoha

Now, Reds fans have a new axe to grind with Slot – his use of teenage star Rio Ngumoha.

One fan wrote: “It’s bizarre how so many players are frozen out.. Gomez, Endo, Chiesa, Ngomoha… Without a doubt, these players will have little to no respect for Slot. He is creating more problems whilst not resolving existing ones … I have little to no faith left in Slot.”

A second added: “Can you imagine playing well in preseason, scoring an extra time winner early in the season, and the manager barely looks at you. This in a spell where we lost 9 of 12 matches.”

“Because Slot is Dutch and swears by Gakpo,” tweeted another, with a fourth echoing: “Slot doesn’t rotate and Gakpo is his favourite player.”

A fifth gave a pretty harsh verdict on the Dutchman in response, writing: “Because Slot doesn’t like him!! It’s not rocket science. Slot picks his team purely and solely on the basis of favouritism and will go on doing it. That’s why Chiesa never plays – Slot doesn’t like him. The man is a disgrace to the job he holds.”

And a sixth suggested: “He doesn’t care about some players, maybe it’s best to get rid of Slot.”

Virgil van Dijk expects big things from Ngumoha, but he is not being given the chance to prove his worth this season despite a plan for his development previously being put in place.

Liverpool backtracking on Rio Ngumoha plan

A report over the summer said that Liverpool didn’t want to sign Bradley Barcola because it could block Ngumoha’s pathway into the first team.

It was even claimed that once the now 17-year-old had penned his first professional contract, that might have been the Reds’ best bit of transfer business all summer.

He eventually agreed terms in September and is now under contract at Anfield until 2028.

However, despite clear issues with Cody Gakpo’s form and Luis Diaz leaving for Bayern Munich, Slot is not giving Ngumoha a chance this season.

The England U19 international is yet to start a Premier League game in 2025/26, being afforded just 42 minutes of action across five appearances.
