Arne Slot’s future as Liverpool head coach was cast into doubt once again this week after a poor performance from his team against Sunderland.
The Reds thought they may have turned a corner after picking up a weekend win over West Ham, but a dire 1-1 draw with the Black Cats at Anfield dispelled those hopes.
If Slot felt he was beginning to find a way out of the woods after collecting three precious points at the London Stadium, his map was snatched away from him once again.
The Reds last five Premier League results have Arne Slot under pressure. Should a loss at Leeds see him sacked?
Defeat at Leeds on Saturday could be the end of Slot at Liverpool, as FSG weigh up whether or not the Dutchman can save their season.
Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has been mentioned in some quarters as an ideal potential candidate to replace Slot on Merseyside. However, journalist David Lynch has given short shrift to the idea of the Austrian taking over.
Liverpool’s squad not suited to Oliver Glasner
Glasner has done an excellent job at Palace, winning them the FA Cup and the Community Shield since arriving in 2023.
The 54-year-old currently has his team sitting fifth in the Premier League table, and having won the Europa League at Eintracht Frankfurt, Glasner has a history of success across multiple clubs.

But having seen suggestions that Liverpool could appoint the Palace manager on social media, Lynch spoke out to explain why there’s ‘no chance’ of him ending up at Anfield.
“There’s absolutely no chance, I’d say,” said the reporter. Asked to explain why, Lynch pointed to Glasner’s style of play as being incompatible with the current Liverpool squad.
“Back three manager and aversion to possession. Bad fit,” he said.
“They’ve also not built the squad for it. And Liverpool losing to a counterattacking manager a lot does not mean they should appoint one.”
FSG can easily recoup the cost of sacking Arne Slot with the right replacement 💰
Would FSG feel the same way?
Although Lynch makes some good points, there is a chance that the Liverpool owners would not necessarily agree.
Glasner has explained his tactical flexibility before, claiming that his team plays the way they do at Crystal Palace because of the players available to him. It may be different at Liverpool.
So many factors go into choosing a new manager, and if FSG feel Glasner is the right fit to succeed Slot, then it seems unlikely that a potential tactical clash would not stop them from hiring him.
Instead, we’d argue that Glasner would not be top of Liverpool’s list regardless of what style of football he prefers to coach.
There are better candidates out there, but first and foremost, faith is going to be put in Slot to turn things around.
