Among the biggest points of contention in his eleven right now is the left-wing position.
Cody Gakpo is too predictable
Despite scoring and assisting against West Ham United last weekend, Cody Gakpo was called frustrating by fans.
He continues to be a regular starter in the squad, but as Jermaine Pennant pointed out on the Wildcards podcast this week, he is too predictable and cuts inside too much.
Pennant said: “How are you not making these changes? How about play Gakpo off because he’s so predictable.
“He’s so predictable. He doesn’t go down the line. If there’s a man, if a man’s holding him up, he’s just going to come inside, play to one of the midfielders or try and shoot.”
Who is most at risk of losing their place against Leeds?
Liverpool players with most minutes 2025/26
Gakpo’s performances have been questionable at times this season, yet for whatever reason, Slot continues to start him week in, week out.
Across all competitions in 2025/26, the former PSV man has notched 1,441 minutes of action.
Only four Liverpool players have been on the pitch for a longer duration this term.
Virgil van Dijk and Dominik Szoboszlai have played the joint-most minutes (1,800), followed by Ibrahima Konate (1,672), Mohamed Salah (1,524) and then the Dutch winger.
Slot criticised Gakpo for his display on Wednesday, but it remains to be seen if he will be dropped against Leeds.
He said: “In my opinion, Cody struggled to dominate the one-v-ones.
“If you want to have any chance against, like I said, they were pressing high but also in multiple situations they were in a low block, [so] the way to score is quite simple: you need a moment of magic from a player or you need a set-piece to score.”
