Three things Arne Slot really needs to work on at Liverpool during the international break

Liverpool have managed to get their Premier League campaign off to a perfect start this season.

The Reds have won all three of their clashes against Bournemouth, Newcastle and Arsenal.

Indeed, there were a couple of shaky moments here and there, but the main thing that matters is that the Anfield outfit came away with all nine points.

And, now that the international break is upon us, it’s the perfect time for Arne Slot to reflect on the start to his team’s season and what he can do to make things even better.

Arne Slot must focus on getting Jeremie Frimpong, Joe Gomez and Stefan Bajcetic fully fit

One of the main problems that Liverpool have faced this term is that they have suffered a fair few injuries to their right-backs.

Since each of Jeremie Frimpong, Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez all found themselves sidelined, Dominik Szoboszlai has had to fill in.

And, while the Hungary international has surprisingly excelled in that role, it’s clear that the rehabilitation for Frimpong and Gomez is obviously a priority.

Indeed, Gomez did make a 10-minute cameo against Arsenal, but there’s no hiding from the fact that Slot would’ve preferred him to start the game at full-back.

Frimpong’s fitness is also a major concern, as, even though the Dutchman said he’d be fit after the international break, it’s unclear whether that’s still the case, as he hasn’t even featured on the bench yet.

And, last but not least, in Bajcetic’s case, even though Slot won’t look towards the Spaniard to be a regular starter, it would be nice to have a player with some top-flight experience on the bench to help out if needed.

That is, especially with the form he found himself in during the second half of the 2024-25 season.

Arne Slot needs to figure out the pecking order of his attackers

Now that Alexander Isak’s £125million transfer has finally been completed, Liverpool now have five senior attackers to choose from.

And, since Rio Ngumoha has been chosen over Federico Chiesa in the Reds’ Champions League squad, the Dutchman needs to figure out the pecking order of his attackers as soon as possible.

Now that there’s no chance of the Italian playing in the Champions League, he must be given priority in all of the Premier League and domestic cup games.

Otherwise, he won’t be given any game time once again, and he won’t be able to fight for his place in Slot’s starting XI.

However, if the first half of the season pans out similarly to the 2024-25 campaign for Chiesa, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him want to exit in January.

Liverpool need to figure out whether Hugo Ekitike can actually play on the left wing

Although the arrival of Isak is exciting, it does raise the question of what his transfer could mean for the future of Hugo Ekitike.

The striker has been in fine form this season, with the Frenchman often being the Reds’ main source of goals.

Ekitike’s silky footwork alongside his keen eye for goal are just two things that have made him the perfect striker for Slot’s starting XI.

However, now that Isak is likely to take over that role, Slot needs to figure out whether Ekitike can be used on the left wing effectively.

From the way he’s played for Liverpool thus far, it feels like there should be no problem, but while Slot has some time on his hands, it could be beneficial to see if there was another way to fit him into the team.

That is, if he doesn’t think he can play on the left, of course.
