Liverpool beat Arsenal 1-0 in their Premier League clash on Sunday evening.

The game was held at Anfield and was very end-to-end throughout, with Liverpool luckily managing to take all three points after a stunning 32-yard free-kick from Dominik Szoboszlai.

Going into the game, it was unclear how the result was going to go, but with both Mikel Arteta and Arne Slot’s men in top form, fireworks were expected.

In the end, however, that wasn’t how things panned out at all, with the first 45 minutes of the game largely consisting of both teams trying to keep one another away from their nets.

And, now that we’re into the final 24 hours of the transfer window, talks about the future of Liverpool’s first-team squad are likely to arise, especially since the transfers of Marc Guehi and Alexander Isak are still viable.

Liverpool cannot sell Joe Gomez to AC Milan this summer

Although most of the transfer talk that has emerged from Anfield over the last couple of weeks has been hinting at Liverpool strengthening their ranks, on Sunday morning, Fabrizio Romano reported that AC Milan had made a bid for Joe Gomez.

Tottenham also held an interest in the Englishman, but with the way their Premier League results have panned out, it seems like Thomas Frank has cooled his interest in signing a new centre-back.

And, even though Gomez’s exit would only be sanctioned if Liverpool sign Guehi this summer, after his cameo against Arsenal, it’s clear that he’s too valuable to Slot’s team.

Granted, he may not be the most reliable injury-wise, but to have a player with as much quality as he does who can play anywhere across the back four is a rare thing, especially in the Premier League.

His versatility could end up being key to the Reds’ title chances by the end of the season, and, if his cameo appearance against the Gunners is anything to go off, it’s clear why Slot is keen on keeping him around.

Joe Gomez helped Liverpool retain their 1-0 lead v Arsenal

Before the Englishman suffered his knee injury, there were times when he looked to be at a similar level to Virgil van Dijk.

However, after he was out for around six months, he never got to those same levels, but against Arsenal on Sunday, he pocketed Viktor Gyokeres with ease.

Gomez may have only been on the pitch for 11 minutes, but in that time, he made seven clearances, won 100 per cent of his aerial duels and maintained an 80 per cent pass accuracy [Sofascore].

In addition to his defensive contributions, the pace he brought to the back line when Arsenal were throwing the kitchen sink at them meant that the Reds could recover easily and continue with their immaculate defensive performance.

Of course, it was only a 10-minute spell, but even just from that short cameo, it’s clear that Liverpool are far better off with him than without him.
