Liverpool have been very busy in the 2025-26 summer transfer window with plenty of players coming and going.
One of the main transfer stories to have emerged from Anfield over the last month or so is the fact that Trent Alexander-Arnold chose to jump ship and leave his boyhood club on a free transfer to Real Madrid.
Liverpool fans were understandably hurt by this, as many expected him to stay at the club for the vast majority of his career, much like Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher did.
However, that wasn’t meant to be with the Englishman choosing to explore pastures new.

And, due to his exit, Arne Slot had to source a couple of new full-backs to fill the gap left behind with former Arsenal star Kieran Gibbs believing one of them is a better player than the right-back.
Kieran Gibbs believes Milos Kerkez is a better player than Trent Alexander-Arnold
Of course, there’s no denying that Alexander-Arnold is an exceptional talent, but the way he left Liverpool should have been so much more amicable.
The Englishman tarnished any sort of links he had with the Anfield outfit as he chose to leave for free, with most fans seeing it as a sign of disrespect.
And, since Liverpool’s left-backs, Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas, failed to perform to the standards expected of them last term, new full-backs were required on both sides.
And, while speaking to B/R football, Gibbs was asked who the top five full-backs in the world are at the moment, with one Liverpool man being named over the right-back.
“One, Hakimi, two [Nuno] Mendes, three [Milos] Kerkez, I really like Kerkez, I’m going to go four Trent [Alexander-Arnold] and I’m going to go five, [Jurrien] Timber,” he said.
Liverpool should be the team to beat in the Premier League this season
Liverpool already had a fairly strong line-up without the arrival of players such as Milos Kerkez and Florian Wirtz.
And, the fact that they’ve both been brought in shows that one of their main goals is to retain the title and perhaps even get into the latter stages of the Champions League.
Indeed, there are still a couple of areas within Liverpool’s squad that could do with strengthening, but unless some of their players are sold, then this could be it for the Reds’ transfer window.

Only time will tell what the future holds, but for now, it’s anyone’s guess what the future could have in store for Slot and his men.
But with talent such as Kerkez available to them from the start, there’s not all that much that could get in their way.
