Liverpool’s signing of Florian Wirtz is arguably the signing of the summer, even though we’re still only in June.

The attacking midfielder was one of the most sought-after players on the market, with the likes of Bayern Munich and Manchester City vying for his signature.

In the end, however, it was Arne Slot’s men who emerged victorious and managed to add the German to their ranks.

Indeed, the fee broke Liverpool’s club record, but judging by the numbers he put out last season, he looks to be an impressive coup.

Tony Cascarino believes it’s ‘strange’ that Florian Wirtz can speak fluent English

Just last week, Liverpool fans were in uproar to find out that Trent Alexander-Arnold was able to speak fluent Spanish.

Although most knew the move was in the works for most of the 2024-25 campaign, the Englishman’s Anfield exit still hurt fans, with many believing he’d betrayed his boyhood club.

Wirtz’s move to Liverpool was made official on Friday evening, and he managed to address the media in fluent English, which Tony Cascarino believed to be somewhat “strange.”

“Do you know what’s strange, you know last weekend we had the Trent interview in Spanish and we were talking about how incredible it was, he’s just done an interview in English and it’s so comfortable,” he said live on talkSPORT.

“It’s like wow, he comes over and does an interview and every word is absolutely spot on, it’s incredible how many players come from abroad and just come to the country and go ‘yeah I can talk English well enough’.”

Liverpool are going to be a force to be reckoned with in the Premier League next season

If Liverpool weren’t already dominant enough last season, the 2025-26 campaign is gearing up to be something special.

Slot is looking at bolstering his ranks across the board, with several players being linked with an Anfield switch each day.

Milos Kerkez is the next one expected to be welcomed, but reports have suggested that others, such as Alexander Isak and Crystal Palace’s captain Marc Guehi, could also be on their way.

This summer was set to be one full of change for Liverpool from the start, but none of their fans would have been expecting them to do as much business as this.

Of course, a massive squad overhaul can have a detrimental effect to start off with, but as they get into the swing of things, it’s hard to see how they’d be stopped.

That is, especially if they manage to sign a regular scoring number nine such as Isak or even Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike over the next couple of months.
