Darwin Nunez is a Liverpool player who has been under some intense scrutiny over the past couple of seasons.
While most Liverpool fans adore the Uruguay international for his unpredictable nature, some have started to become frustrated with his lack of form in the final third.
The former Benfica man was supposed to be the Reds’ answer to Erling Haaland, but in reality, it’s felt like Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo have done far better jobs for Arne Slot when called upon.

However, even though the striker hasn’t been in the best form of his career this term, that hasn’t stopped clubs from showing an interest in him, with Saudi Pro League teams seeming to lead the charge.
Liverpool fans react as Florian Plettenberg confirms a Darwin Nunez exit is ‘absolutely possible’
Since the start of the 2024-25 campaign, there have been many rumours regarding the future of Nunez at Liverpool.
In fact, there were even reports of a bid for the Uruguay international being accepted in the January transfer window, but alas, nothing came to fruition.
And, now that the summer window is edging ever closer, the rumour mill has started to turn at Anfield once again.
“Nunez should leave my club, please,” one fan wrote. While another added: “Please sell him fast, faster and fastest, can’t wait for the dream day to arrive.”
This fan took aim at Nunez’s age and wrote: “Saudi at 25 is insane.”
Another said: “I will take him myself personally, give us some good buck, take all 3.“
“Núñez a pretty much nailed on departure so there should be a replacement, naturally,” wrote this X user.
Finally, this fan said, “I’ll drive him to the airport.”
Florian Wirtz could be an ideal transfer for Liverpool if Darwin Nunez leaves
Even though the 2024-25 season hasn’t concluded just yet, there are still plenty of rumours being shared about the transfer business that Liverpool are going to do in the summer.
Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong is the player closest to joining Liverpool, but others such as Milos Kerkez and Florian Wirtz have also been linked with an Anfield switch.
The latter of the three is arguably the most exciting name of all, with both Bayern Munich and Manchester City linked with an interest in the German.
He currently plies his trade for Bayer Leverkusen and is coming off the back of yet another impressive season.
| Competition | Games | Goals | Assists |
| Bundesliga | 31 | 10 | 13 |
| Champions League | 9 | 6 | 1 |
| DFB Pokal | 4 | 0 | 1 |
| DFL Supercup | 1 | 0 | 0 |
While Wirtz is more of a number 10 than a striker, the creativity he would bring to the team would be second to none.
If a Saudi Pro League club comes in for Nunez in the summer, the vast majority of the required fee would likely be covered by his departure.
Of course, these are all just ifs, buts and maybes at the moment, but with the way the summer transfer window has kicked off, the 2025-26 season is shaping up to be a rather exciting one for Slot and his men.
