Arne Slot already has plan to replace Jarell Quansah in the Liverpool squad next season

Plenty of changes look set to be made at Liverpool this summer as Arne Slot begins to shape his squad.

Slot has done a remarkable job in his debut season with the Reds, standing just one point away from an unlikely Premier League title win.

One of the most impressive things about the Liverpool head coach is that he’s done it having barely altered the team left behind by Jurgen Klopp.

There have been some tweaks here and there in terms of certain roles for certain players, but the personnel has remained largely identical.

That is likely to change over the coming months, though, with a number of players’ futures under threat.

Jarell Quansah is one of those who has struggled to make much of an impact under Slot and according to reports on Wednesday, the Liverpool academy graduate is in danger of being replaced.

Dean Huijsen could be Jarell Quansah replacement

While Quansah has not had as successful a season as he did in 2023/24 under Klopp, it has not been all bad for the 22-year-old.

He has made 11 appearances for the team who will be crowned Premier League champions, has played 12 more times in all competitions and has developed himself as a right-back. Nevertheless, there is a feeling that Slot does not fully trust Quansah.

Liverpool are set to look for a new centre-back this summer and Dean Huijsen is a top target. According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, the Bournemouth defender could in fact be brought in as a replacement for Quansah.

“Liverpool have once again made a strong push for Dean Huijsen in recent days!” Plettenberg says on X. “Projects and figures have all been presented. At Liverpool, there are plans to either loan or sell Jarell Quansah, with Huijsen potentially taking over that squad role.”

“Chelsea, Arsenal, Newcastle, Real Madrid and several other top clubs are all actively involved in the race for the 20 y/o centre-back gem. His release clause stands at £50 million.

“The player has not yet made a decision — partly because at some interested clubs, the key dominoes are yet to fall.”

What about Joe Gomez?

Along with this news about Quansah, there are seemingly question marks over three of Liverpool’s four centre-backs this summer.

Thankfully, the one who is certain to stay at the club is Virgil van Dijk. That had not been a given up until a week ago, mind you.

Meanwhile, Ibrahima Konate’s contract situation is cause for concern, while it sounds as though Quansah could be on the move, too.

Finally, after coming close to leaving last summer, Rousing The Kop understands there is a real chance of Joe Gomez exiting Anfield this time around.

Even if they do end up bringing in Huijsen, there is surely no way Liverpool lose all of Quansah, Konate and Gomez.
