Liverpool are set to take on Everton in the 246th Merseyside derby on Wednesday night at Anfield.

The Reds’ last contest with the Toffees was a fiery one with the match seeing both Curtis Jones and Abdoulaye Doucoure sent off after the full-time whistle as both players became involved in a scuffle.

This provided another iconic moment in a long list seen throughout previous Merseyside derbies and Arne Slot will be hoping for another this week as his team continue their push for the Premier League title.

One man who experienced some incredible derby day moments was the Dutch coach’s predecessor, Jurgen Klopp, and when sitting down to reflect on them all last year, the German coach revealed which was his favourite.

Jurgen Klopp’s favourite Merseyside derby moment

Klopp competed in 19 games against Everton and the German would walk away with a record of 11 wins, six draws and two defeats.

Everton would defeat Liverpool during Klopp’s last Merseyside derby, however, these contests coughed up some incredible moments during the legendary coach’s time at Anfield.

Sadio Mane’s last-minute winner at Goodison Park, Virgil van Dijk’s first goal for the Reds and there were also some hammerings during Klopp’s time, such as the 5-2 win at Anfield.

However, the former Liverpool manager’s favourite moment was Divock Origi’s late winner at Anfield after the ball bounced on the crossbar, which Klopp revealed to Sky Sports last year.

“That was a great moment. That’s great,” Klopp said while watching Origi’s goal. “The last second pretty much of the game. When I see it, I can feel it again.

“It was absolutely outstanding, nobody expected that. We all thought the ball was out, it wasn’t, but you still have to be there. Divock had the nose for it, so yeah, that was my best moment, I think.”

This was one of many moments Origi stepped up against Everton as the Belgian had a thing for scoring against the Reds’ city rivals.

Divock Origi’s record vs Everton

Origi was a cult hero during his time at Liverpool and his many Merseyside derby moments played a role in that.

The striker faced Everton 14 times throughout his career, producing seven goals and four assists, creating some memorable moments along the way.

Reflecting back on his best moments against Everton, Klopp showed his surprise at how many goals Origi scored against the Toffees. “Divock scored a few?” the former Liverpool boss remarked.

“When asked if the striker was a big moment magnet, the German coach responded with: “Yeah, definitely. Fantastic boy, he was a really, really good striker”.

Origi will also be a figure remembered by those at Anfield due to the moments he produced in a red shirt and Everton fans would have been glad to have seen the back of him when he left Anfield in 2022.
