Andy Robertson reveals how he is dealing with being rotated by Arne Slot at Liverpool this season

Andy Robertson has already cemented himself as a Liverpool legend.

The left-back position at Anfield has been owned by the Scottish international ever since making the move to Merseyside from Hull City in 2017.

Robertson was a crucial part of the Jurgen Klopp era at Liverpool, winning every trophy possible under the legendary German coach.

The 30-year-old would consistently pump in seven out of ten performances every week for the Reds, however, that has changed this season.

The full-back has struggled since the arrival of Arne Slot and that has resulted in the Dutch coach rotating the left-back often for Kostas Tsimikas.

This is an unusual situation Robertson finds himself and the way the Liverpool star has been dealing with shows why he is a vital member of the Reds’ current squad.

Andy Robertson shares feelings on being rotated at Liverpool

Robertson has featured 32 times for Liverpool this season but not all those appearances have been from the start or have seen the full-back complete the 90 minutes, which was not the case for the defender under Klopp.

Slot’s frustrations with Robertson were visible against Everton after the left-back picked up a cheap yellow card in the first half, however, if the Dutch coach is picking his best team, the Scottish star is in it.

Jamie Carragher has been critical of Robertson this season and left-back is a role Liverpool will likely address this summer.

The Scottish star will be aware of this but the way he has been handling rotation this season is admirable and highlights why the full-back has many fans within the Reds’ squad.

Speaking in the official matchday programme for Liverpool’s match with Wolves, Robertson opened up on his frustrations of not playing as much this season.

“Every footballer wants to play every single minute of every single game, but it is not always possible and I think we all know that,” the left-back said.

“You can get frustrated at not getting picked or you can be disappointed or whatever, but it is up to the whole squad to be ready when the manager needs them. I think we have done that really well this season.

“If you don’t want to play every minute of every game then there’s probably something wrong with you. That’s the elite sportsperson in you.

“But the manager and the sports scientists sometimes have to look after you or to choose a different player for different reasons, so it’s up to you to accept it and just be ready for when you are needed in a game.”

Although Robertson admits to being disappointed, the defender still loves playing for Liverpool and is excited about what the Reds can achieve throughout the remainder of this season.

Being a Liverpool player still excites Andy Robertson

Many players in world football would kill to be in Robertson’s current position and although the left-back will be disappointed about seeing his minutes reduced, the Scotland star is still very excited about being a red.

When asked if it is an exciting time to play for the Merseyside club, the defender responded: “It’s obviously a good moment and an exciting time. We finished top of the Champions League… and in the Premier League, we’re going well.

“We need to keep the momentum going and hopefully we can keep winning games, starting with Wolves.”

Liverpool will have Robertson replacements in mind heading into the summer should the defender fail to turn his current form around, however, everyone at the club will hope he can achieve this.

With his contract expiring in 2026, next season will likely be Robertson’s last at Anfield, and the Scottish defender will hope to end his time with Liverpool on a high.
