The future of Trent Alexander-Arnold remains uncertain at Liverpool.

The right-back is out of contract at Anfield at the end of the season and there has been no concrete update on a new deal being signed by the defender.

Real Madrid have a strong interest in Alexander-Arnold and many feel that the England international will depart the Premier League leaders once the current campaign concludes.

This has led to fans of the Merseyside club questioning the full-back when he underperforms. The Liverpool star put in a poor display against Wolves at the weekend, while Alexander-Arnold was criticised for his Man United performance in January.

Overall, the 26-year-old has been brilliant for Liverpool this season and he showed how committed he is to the cause against Aston Villa on Wednesday night.

Trent Alexander-Arnold helps Liverpool earn Aston Villa point

Liverpool were involved in a thrilling game against Aston Villa at Villa Park with the Reds earning a point with a 2-2 draw to move the Merseyside club eight points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Alexander-Arnold would score the equaliser with 61 minutes on the clock and the full-back showed how committed he is to the Reds’ cause as the defender carried the ball forward before finishing the move by putting the ball into the back of the Villa net.

Alexander-Arnold’s work impressed TNT Sports commentator Lucy Ward, who believed that the full-back had a big influence on the Reds coming away with a point.

“It is all about Alexander-Arnold and Liverpool’s reaction to winning the ball back,” Ward said via the BBC. “He gets a little bit of luck but he knows exactly what he is going to do. Alexander-Arnold has had more input in the second half of this game and it has helped Liverpool.

Despite his contract situation, Alexander-Arnold won’t down tools at Liverpool throughout the remainder of the campaign and his overall display against Aston Villa shows he can still have a major role at Anfield.

The numbers behind Trent Alexander-Arnold’s Aston Villa performance

Alexander-Arnold’s performance against Aston Villa will not go down as one of the best of his career, however, the full-back had a significant impact on the game.

Throughout the 66 minutes he spent on the pitch, the 26-year-old scored a goal, made four key passes, completed five out of seven long ball attempts, made one of his two crosses, and finished the contest with a pass accuracy of 86%.

From a defensive point of view, Alexander-Arnold made four clearances, made just one tackle, won one out of his two duels, made no fouls and was not dribbled past by any Villa player.

Slot may already have a Alexander-Arnold replacement in mind, however, everyone associated with Liverpool hoped the full-back remains on Merseyside next season.
