Liverpool are picking up the pieces of what was a dramatic Merseyside Derby on Wednesday.
The Reds knew they could move to nine points clear at the top of the Premier League table with a win at Goodison Park and were seconds away from doing so.
But after Liverpool failed to deal with a bouncing ball into the box, James Tarkowski ploughed home a last-gasp equaliser for the Toffees.
On the occasion of the final ever Merseyside Derby in Goodison’s 130 plus years, the goal sent the Everton supporters into bedlam. Abdoulaye Doucoure lost his head and goaded the Liverpool fans, leading to a furious reaction from Curtis Jones.
And after both players were given red cards, Arne Slot then followed them onto referee Michael Oliver’s naughty list.
Slot was seen berating the officials before being sent off by Oliver, but with the exact reason for his sending off still a bit of a mystery, AI has stepped in with a hilarious explanation.

Arne Slot sent off for ‘reckless challenge’
Slot was clearly angered by the refusal to award Liverpool a foul in the build-up to Tarkowski’s equaliser.
But it wasn’t just that one, specific incident which caused outrage amongst the Liverpool coaching staff.
Oliver incorrectly awarded Everton a free-kick which directly led to the game’s opening goal and the referee was generally whistle-happy towards the Reds.
And as spotted and posted by writer and podcast host Adam Hurrey on X, an AI-automated commentary feed suggested that Slot took all of this rather personally.
“Arne Slot (Liverpool) makes a reckless challenge on his opponent and is shown a straight red card without any hesitation from the referee!” says the feed.
We must have missed that!
Arne Slot handed two-game ban
Obviously, this was not what happened on the pitch at Goodison. Slot was angry, but not that angry.
Nevertheless, as the Liverpool head coach was banned from speaking to any media following his sending off on Wednesday, we are still yet to hear from Slot himself as to what happened.
Regardless of how he explains himself, though, the 46-year-old was handed a two-game ban for ‘using offensive, insulting, or abusive language’ towards Oliver by the Premier League on Thursday.

Usually so calm and collected, the drama and chaos of Goodison clearly seeped into Slot’s psyche on Wednesday. He’s not the first to be caught out by the Merseyside Derby and he won’t be the last.
