One of the markers of Liverpool’s first season under Arne Slot has been how they’ve dealt with injuries.
The Reds had so often been beset by fitness problems throughout Jurgen Klopp’s tenure as manager.
However, since Slot and a new Liverpool coaching staff took over in the summer, there has been a noticeable shift.
Players are no longer spending months out injured, instead returning in weeks. And – touch wood – there have been no clumps of players picking up lengthy problems all at the same time.
Not every team in the Premier League can say the same thing. And Man United, for instance, have just picked up a serious problem in their already struggling squad.
Lisandro Martinez may not be Liverpool fan’s favourite opponent, but the sight of him being stretchered off at the weekend with a serious knee injury is not one anyone should celebrate. Having seen his countryman ruled out for the season, Alexis Mac Allister has reached out to Martinez.

Alexis Mac Allister sends Lisandro Martinez wishes
Martinez has been something of a pantomime villain ever since his arrival at United in 2022.
The 27-year-old is certainly an easy character for rival fans to hang onto. His overly aggressive on-pitch nature very often oversteps the mark.
Nevertheless, despite the rivalry of their clubs, Mac Allister and Martinez appear to be close.
They won the World Cup together with Argentina in 2022 and followed that up with a Copa America win in 2024.
As a result, it was not a surprise to see Mac Allister take to his Instagram stories on Tuesday to wish his friend all the best in his recovery.
“A lot of strength my friend!” wrote Liverpool’s No.10, sharing a snap of he and Martinez smiling together. “Come back stronger than ever.”
Do Liverpool have any injury problems?
Injuries are part and parcel of football, but that does not make them any easier to take when they happen.
Liverpool have done really well to cope with them so far this season, but there is still a long – and crucial – period left.
As they begin head into the spring, the Liverpool squad is in very good shape, though, that has to be said.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is currently the only first-team player out injured. After an update on Tuesday, however, it has been determined that Alexander-Arnold’s injury is not a serious one.
As a result, although he’s set to miss Thursday’s clash with Tottenham Hotspur, Trent looks set to return for next week’s Merseyside Derby.
