Liverpool booked their place in the Champions League Last 16 on Tuesday night but will the Reds win the competition?
Liverpool have achieved their goal against Lille with one game to spare, although Raphinha’s late winner for Barcelona against Benfica keeps the La Liga giants in contention for the top spot in the league format.
The Merseyside outfit have made an incredible start to life under Arne Slot as not only are the Reds leading the way in Europe, but also in the Premier League, with the Reds currently out front from Arsenal by six points.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 1 | 21 | 15 | 5 | 1 | 50 | 20 | 30 | 50 | |
| 2 | 22 | 12 | 8 | 2 | 43 | 21 | 22 | 44 | |
| 3 | 22 | 13 | 5 | 4 | 33 | 22 | 11 | 44 | |
| 4 | 22 | 11 | 7 | 4 | 44 | 27 | 17 | 40 |
Liverpool have shown weaknesses since the turn of the year, however, the Reds are still displaying that they are still the best team in Europe.
Despite this, some people continue to doubt Slot’s men, with ESPN’s pundits picking a familiar name to win the Champions League this season.

Real Madrid expected to overcome Liverpool to achieve Champions League glory again
When it comes to the Champions League, there is no doubt that it is Real Madrid’s competition as the defending champions have triumphed in the competition 15 times.
Los Blancos obtain superpowers when competing in Europe, no matter how bad their team is, which is why two ESPN pundits have picked the Spanish giants to win it again this season.
Former Chelsea star Craig Burley has made a surprise pick, overlooking Liverpool to claim that Inter Mian will win the 2025 edition of the Champions League.
“I just got a feeling this year. Inter are going to win Serie A,” Burley said on ESPN FC when asked who he thinks will be European champions.
“They can do every side of the game. They’re good going forward, solid in the middle of the park, and they can defend for their life when they need to, when we used to talk about you don’t want to play at Atleti, I think because you don’t want to play Inter these days because I think they’re stronger.
“Liverpool are the best team at the moment, and they’re also defensively good. They’ve only given up two goals in this competition out of seven games.
“But I’ve just got a feeling with this Inter side that they are the team none of the others want to play against because they’re difficult to play against and they’re a threat going forward.”
Liverpool will be deemed the favourites by many but the further they go in each competition, the more unlikely they are to achieve their goals.
Quadruple charge could have a big impact on Liverpool
Quadruple talk is nothing new for Liverpool over the last three years and it has already started this season as the campaign heads towards the business end.
Steve Nicol can’t see Liverpool achieving the feat given that it is never been done before by even better teams than Arne Slot’s men.
In 2022, Liverpool’s quadruple charge ended up hurting them in the end as Jurgen Klopp’s team would win the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, however, would run out of steam ahead of the Premier League concluding and in the Champions League final.
There are not many teams at Liverpool’s level this season and therefore, the one that is most likely to beat them is themselves.
