A round-up of the latest Liverpool news as Arne Slot receives an update on Alisson Becker’s return from his hamstring injury plus news on Mohamed Salah’s contract.
Liverpool have a ‘good chance’ at a new Virgil van Dijk contract despite recent rejection
Liverpool still have a ‘good chance’ to get Virgil van Dijk to sign a new contract despite their captain rejecting the Reds’ opening offer. That is according to Florian Plettenberg, who now reports that the Dutchman has several suitors but can imagine staying at Anfield next term.
Van Dijk’s future is of high priority to Liverpool with the 33-year-old a free agent as of July 1, 2025. Yet despite a number of clubs being interested in the centre-half, Van Dijk can picture extending his career on Merseyside once Liverpool improve the terms of their contract offer.
Anfield chiefs have tabled their first concrete offer to extend Van Dijk’s contract beyond the end of this season. But the Netherlands skipper felt the terms on offer fell just below what he would find acceptable. So, talks will continue as Liverpool’s chances remain fairly strong.

Alisson Becker set to miss the Merseyside derby as Liverpool star’s injury woe continues
Liverpool are likely to be without goalkeeper Alisson Becker through injury when they travel to Everton for the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on Saturday. That is according to David Lynch, who reports that the Brazilian will again be sidelined with his hamstring injury.
Alisson has endured a slower rehabilitation process than Liverpool initially planned when he sustained the injury against Crystal Palace on October 5. Head coach Arne Slot also fears he might be missing until the end of December, yet an earlier return date for Alisson is possible.
Medical staff at Liverpool are eager for Slot to play Alisson’s return with caution to avoid any potential reoccurrence of his muscular injury. The 32-year-old is showing positive signs with his recovery but the Reds would be loath to lose the Brazilian for any longer than is needed.
Alisson started the season with four clean sheets to just two goals conceded through his six Premier League appearances. He also enjoyed one shut-out through two Champions League outings. Caoimhin Keller has since deputised for Alisson in Liverpool’s more recent matches.

Liverpool surprised to hear Mohamed Salah would accept a new one-year contract
Insiders at Liverpool were surprised to hear reports that Mohamed Salah would accept only a one-year contract to extend his era at Anfield. That is according to Graeme Bailey, who has exclusively told Rousing The Kop that Paris Saint-Germain are also not in talks with Salah yet.
Claims emerged on Monday that Salah, who is a free agent next summer, would consider an offer which includes only the 2025/26 season to stay on Merseyside amid Liverpool pushing for a longer extension. But if that was the case, the Reds would likely have agreed it already.
Liverpool would likely have accepted Salah’s stance in the summer if he was only prepared to extend his contract by 12 months. Instead, efforts continue to keep the 32-year-old after his eighth campaign at the club with Salah’s camp aware he will likely draw further interest.
Salah has been in simply sensational form so far this season to lead Liverpool to the top of the Premier League table. He has even helped guide the Anfield natives to the only perfect record in the league phase of the Champions League with a goal and four assists in five ties.
