Liverpool hint that there could be a big announcement coming on Friday before Man City clash

Liverpool are in a brilliant moment after recording a sixth win in a row on Wednesday.

The Reds swept Real Madrid aside to maintain their perfect record in the Champions League and move back to the top of the table.

With things also going amazingly well for Arne Slot in the Premier League, Liverpool supporters must be wondering how life could get any better.

There are two obvious answers there. Firstly, a win against Manchester City on Sunday would send the Reds 11 points clear of Pep Guardiola’s team in first place. That would be pretty good.

The second, and arguably even more important factor would be if the soon-to-be out of contract trio of Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah all signed on to stay at Anfield.

In that respect, it looks like Liverpool are hinting that there could be some good news – or at least some big news – on the way on Friday.

Liverpool drop big announcement hint

If Liverpool received positive contract news and then beat City on Sunday, it would be one of the best weeks of all-time for Reds fans.

Although nothing is confirmed that this is on the way, the Reds decision to move Slot’s usual Friday press conference to Thursday has certainly raised some eyebrows.

The pre-weekend fixtures press conference is virtually always on a Friday.

The last time this was not the case for Liverpool was back in January, when Jurgen Klopp chose to do his usual press meeting on Thursday, before announcing his decision to leave on the Friday.

Although there could be an innocent reason behind the switch, we’re not altogether sure what that could be.

It’s likely that the majority of players will be taking the day off on Thursday and there will be little going on at the Liverpool training ground as a result.

So, call it a reach, but given that there are three very big announcements that could be in the pipeline for Liverpool, it seems that something could be brewing.

What could the announcement be?

Obviously, Liverpool supporters will hope that any announcement is positive news. However, like it was with Klopp, there’s a chance that it will not be.

If any of Van Dijk, Salah or Alexander-Arnold are set to leave the club, it would be best to get it out there in the public long before the end of the season.

It’s certainly possible that something could be arriving on Friday that would signal any of the trio are going. In our opinion, the most likely player for this eventuality would be Alexander-Arnold.

But let’s focus on the positive, and on the flip side of that, perhaps the most probable announcement of a contract extension will come for Van Dijk.

Van Dijk looks virtually certain to stay at Liverpool and a confirmation of that fact before Sunday’s game with City would be the icing on what is becoming a very large cake.
