‘World-class’ France international knows Liverpool are watching him closely this season

There remains a chance that Liverpool will need to revamp their forward line next summer.

The Reds currently have six very good to world-class options within their squad, but may soon see that number reduced.

Mohamed Salah is due to depart at the end of the season as things stand, while there have been claims that patience is running out with Darwin Nunez, too.

Liverpool have been linked with Omar Marmoush, amongst others, as they scramble to clear up the future of their attack.

With so much uncertainty, it’s clear that Liverpool are keeping an eye on various front-men across Europe and beyond.

And with scouts deployed right across the continent, claims from Italy suggest that the Reds may have found what they are looking for in Milan.

Liverpool keen on Marcus Thuram signing

What kind of forward Liverpool are looking for next summer – if any at all – will largely depend on who departs Anfield.

But in the likelihood that Nunez does not suddenly start firing and Diogo Jota remains on the treatment table a little too often, a central option could be the order of the day.

In that respect, Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport claim that Liverpool are keeping a close watch over Inter striker Marcus Thuram.

They claim that the Reds have been keen on Thuram ever since Jurgen Klopp’s time at the club and their interest has since continued.

The 27-year-old and his agents are said to be well aware of Liverpool’s interest, with the Reds’ ‘old appreciation’ claimed to have ‘grown’ since the start of the season.

But while Thuram’s lifelong friendship with Federico Chiesa is mentioned as being a potential pull for for the France international, he is reportedly committed to achieving more goals with Inter.

With a £71m release clause woven into his contract and a deal which runs until 2028, there is a suggestion that this one is unlikely to happen.

Too late for Thuram

Liverpool could have signed Thuram on a free transfer back in 2023. The Frenchman was leaving Borussia Monchengladbach on the back of a really good season in Germany.

Wolfsburg sporting director Marcel Schafe called Thuram ‘world class‘ after he had dismantled his team back in October 2022.

Having signed for Inter, the forward has done well, scoring 15 goals in 46 games as the Nerazzurri won the Scudetto last term, before eight goals in 15 this term have marked him out once again.

However, for Liverpool, the time to sign Thuram felt like in 2023. Now 27 and with a big old release clause, it does not look like the kind of deal the Reds will go for.

A forward player should be on the menu for Liverpool, but we’d be surprised to see Thuram anywhere near the top of the shortlist.
