Whether Liverpool have really made contact about signing Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt

The November international break is always prime time for Liverpool in terms of January transfer rumours ramping up.

With no actual football to speak of, talk tends to turn to what the Reds could do when the window swings open in the New Year.

This time, a lot of talk has centred around the possibility of a Liverpool move for Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush.

There have been claims that Marmoush is dreaming of a move to Anfield and even that contact has already been initiated from Liverpool’s side.

The attraction of the Egyptian for the Reds is clear. With 14 goals and 10 assists so far this season Marmoush is one of the form players in all of Europe.

So, with talk starting to become deafening, journalist James Pearce has weighed in on what he’s hearing about the 25-year-old being added to the Liverpool squad.

No Omar Marmoush talks for Liverpool

Not a week goes by at the moment without Marmoush doing something brilliant. The former Wolfsburg man has scored back-to-back wonder goals over his last two games.

Marmoush hit a sensational free-kick in the Europa League against Slavia Prague last Thursday, before repeating the trick when Eintracht played Stuttgart on Sunday.

Everything the forward touches appears to turn to gold right now and after claims that Liverpool could ditch Darwin Nunez this summer, they could perhaps do with such a prolific goal scorer.

Nevertheless, answering questions from Liverpool fans for The Athletic, Pearce has poured cold water on the idea of any move for Marmoush being anything like imminent.

“There were some reports in Germany that Liverpool had already initiated contact, but I’ve been told that’s not the case,” says the reporter.

“Marmoush is having a brilliant season, but Liverpool have six elite attackers — Salah, Diaz, Nunez, Jota, Gakpo and Chiesa.

“They would only look to bolster that department if someone left.”

Summer transfer more likely for Omar Marmoush

Although transfer talk is certainly starting to get heated, it does feel unlikely that Liverpool will do anything in January.

If they do decide that a signing cannot wait until the summer, it would most likely be for a centre-back or a central midfield player.

In terms of forwards, Pearce makes a really good point. Although two are out of action at the moment, and have been for a while, Liverpool still have a lot of options when everyone’s fit.

There is no real need to add another while the season is still ongoing.

That could obviously change next summer, though, depending on what is happening with the likes of Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota in particular.

There is too much smoke around Marmoush for interest from Liverpool to be dismissed. But if this does get firmed up, then it will surely be at the end of the campaign rather than in the middle of it.
