Fabinho reveals what he ‘knows’ about Liverpool contract situations as Reds become desperate

Liverpool are edging closer and closer to losing three of their star players for nothing next summer.

The Reds have been excellent for the most part on the pitch under Arne Slot this season, but a dark cloud has steadily been gathering in the meantime.

The longer Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah go without having their futures cleared up, the more nervous Liverpool supporters will become.

Should the worst come to the worst and all three depart Anfield, they will join a long list of Jurgen Klopp-era Liverpool legends to leave the club in recent times.

One of those who falls under that category – if to a lesser extent – is Fabinho.

And as Fabinho enjoys his second season out in Saudi Arabia, the Brazilian has weighed in on what he ‘knows’ about the situation of his three former teammates.

Fabinho says Liverpool are ‘desperate’ for trio to stay

Fabinho had an almost perfect career at Liverpool. Across five years the defensive midfielder won it all.

Having seen a big decline in his level during 2022/23, Fabinho then left and actually made the Reds a profit in the transfer market.

On his day, the 31-year-old was even better than current Ballon d’Or holder Rodri.

Now plying his trade with Al Ittihad, though, Fabinho has been looking at goings on at Liverpool from the outside.

And asked by Four Four Two about the three burning issues on the table at Anfield, the Brazil international gave his thoughts.

“I haven’t talked to them lately and to be honest I didn’t see any news about them coming to the Saudi League or leaving Liverpool,” says Fabinho.

“I know that some players like Mo, Virgil and Trent are at the end of their contract, and I think Liverpool are desperate to get them a new contract, but it’s not my problem any more!”

‘Top clubs’ start to circle Virgil van Dijk

Although things do still seem calm on all three of these big stars, something has to start happening soon.

We’ll soon be in November and time is really starting to run out.

With that in mind, there were fresh stories doing the rounds on Tuesday that Van Dijk is being looked at by some ‘top clubs‘ in Europe.

Should the Liverpool captain leave Anfield it has always been assumed that Saudi Arabia would be his next logical destination.

But Van Dijk has shown that he can still play at the top level this season. If the Reds let him walk out to a Barcelona or a Bayern Munich for nothing, they’ll look like the biggest mugs on the planet. Time to get it sorted.
