Virgil van Dijk’s contract expires at the end of this season, and Liverpool are running out of time to organise a new deal.
Saudi Arabian clubs are interested in signing Van Dijk with the 33-year-old centre-back still regarded as one of the best defenders in world football, with the Dutch international as good as he has ever been at the back for Liverpool.
With Van Dijk coy on his Liverpool contract this weekend after the Reds’ 2-2 draw with Arsenal in north London, the Anfield side might be some distance away from reaching an agreement with the captain on a new deal.
Yet all hope is seemingly not lost on Van Dijk penning a new contract.

‘Discussions ongoing’ between Liverpool and Van Dijk on new contract
According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenbger, discussions are ongoing between the Reds and Van Dijk, with the journalist posting: “Liverpool remain Virgil van Dijk’s primary point of contact regarding his future, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.
“Several top clubs are interested in the 33y/o world-class defender, but a contract extension with Liverpool is still possible. No final decision has been made yet, and discussions are ongoing.”

With Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah in the same position as Van Dijk in regards to their Liverpool contracts, the Reds simply cannot allow their star centre-back to leave for nothing in 2025.
And with clubs now eyeing Van Dijk, Liverpool need to get a move on in their bid to renew the defender’s contract, with the Dutch international too important a player to be allowed to leave heading into Arne Slot’s second year at Anfield.

Liverpool need to throw the kitchen sink at Van Dijk to keep him
With three key players primed to leave for nothing next summer, Liverpool are running out of time in their hopes of keeping hold at least one of their star names, with Van Dijk the mostly likely candidate to stay on Merseyside.
And with a race against the clock now firmly on, Liverpool need to be throwing everything possible to keep hold of Van Dijk for a few more years, who even at 33-years-old is still one of the best defenders in world football.
Indeed, Van Dijk has the quality to marshal the Reds’ defence for another three or four years, and Liverpool have to be doing all they can to keep the Dutch international beyond this season.
