Liverpool loaned 15 players out in the summer transfer market, with five also leaving on deadline day, and the instant impact that one has made is leaving his boss in awe.
The Reds moved heavily in the last hours of the window to secure regular first-team minutes for their fringe players and youth prospects. Players also continued to leave Anfield in search of more match opportunities in the 2024/25 season after the market closed to English clubs.
It all ensured the exit door at the AXA Training Centre was spinning far more regularly during the off-season than the entrance as Liverpool only signed three players. Only two have even arrived with Giorgi Mamardashvili staying at Valencia for another year and one was a youth.

Among the deadline day loan transfers that Liverpool agreed to sanction included a deal for Ben Doak to spend 2024/25 at Middlesbrough. It marked the first time that the 18-year-old has left Merseyside since joining Liverpool’s academy from Celtic’s academy in March 2022.
The winger had already made his first-team debut for the Bhoys before Liverpool paid Celtic £600k in compensation to sign Doak. He has also played 10 games in the Reds’ first-team so far but has only amassed 307 minutes, having only started in four games in all competitions.

Doak also missed much of last season due to a serious knee injury that even kept the winger from representing Scotland at Euro 2024. But Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick is in awe of the instant impact that Doak has made since, finally, linking up with his Riverside natives.
“He’s been in since Tuesday and he’s really impressed and settled in quickly and already had an impact on the group,” Carrick said, via quotes by Teesside Live. “He’s obviously desperate to get going, playing and be part of the team.”

Doak only trained with Middlesbrough for the first time this Tuesday after the Liverpool gem made his senior Scotland debut during the September international break. Steve Clarke gave him minutes off the bench as the Tartan Army lost at home to Poland and away to Portugal.
His Middlesbrough debut might also quickly follow from the bench when Boro host Preston North End on Saturday. While Doak is still not 100 per cent ready to start a match, Teesside Live adds that Middlesbrough are very excited after beating seven clubs to his loan transfer.
Liverpool only agreed to let Doak leave on loan late in the market, ultimately causing him to finalise a deadline day deal to join Middlesbrough. The Reds will now hope Carrick’s instant delight leads to the forward featuring frequently with a side seeking promotion this season.
