Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold edged out Caoimhin Kelleher on the international stage as England beat Ireland 2-0.

Both Liverpool players played the entire UEFA Nations League match in Dublin, with Lee Carsley winning his first match as interim manager.

Alexander-Arnold is the only Liverpool player in the manager’s first England squad, with the Liverpool ace clearly going to be key for Carsley going forward.

The defender has enjoyed a superb start to the new season, with his displays continuing onto the international stage.

Alexander-Arnold impressed in England training in the build-up to the match, with the right-back then starring on the pitch when it mattered.

Three Lions interim manager Carsley seems to have quickly settled the debate over the player’s national team role, with Gareth Southgate having often deployed Alexander-Arnold in midfield.

But he certainly looked at home at right-back, with the defender’s expert range of passing on display for all to see.

Slot will also be delighted to see Kelleher perform admirably despite his lack of minutes at club level, with the goalkeeper certain to be called upon when the fixtures come thick and fast.
