After the close of the summer transfer market, focus at Liverpool should be fully on matters on the pitch.
The Reds have started the season terrifically well, enjoying the fruits of a perfect start in the Premier League.
But while there has been plenty of praise for Arne Slot and how he has fitted seamlessly in at Liverpool, there is another topic still dominating headlines at Anfield.
With just one year to go on the contracts of all three, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah are currently set to be free agents at the end of the season. It is big, big news.
But while Liverpool ponder exactly what to do with the three superstars of their first-team squad, another contract situation has quietly started to arise, too.

Liverpool not planning Luis Diaz extension
Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk and Salah have all started the season really well for the Reds.
Salah has been amazing in particular and news has filtered through on Thursday that the Egyptian is keen to stay with the Reds.
Despite inevitable interest from the Middle East, it has been reported that Salah does not want to end up like Sadio Mane following his move to Saudi Arabia.
While we wait to see how Liverpool respond to their No.11’s wishes, they seemingly have already made it clear what their stance is surrounding a new deal for Luis Diaz.

Like Salah, Diaz has three goals in the opening three games of this season. Slot has been working with Diaz individually on the training pitch and appears to be getting the best out of the Colombian.
There had been some whisperings that Diaz’s good form could lead to a contract extension of his own at Anfield. But according to the Liverpool ECHO, this is not set to be the case.
They claim that Liverpool have ‘dismissed’ rumours that the Colombian is due to sign a new deal as being ‘wide of the mark.’ Diaz still has just under three years left on his contract and all parties are said to be ‘relaxed’ over the situation.
It’s claimed that while new talks could be on the agenda at some stage, there is currently no plan for that to happen any time soon.
What does the future hold for Luis Diaz?
There were very strong suggestions that Diaz could have been sold by Liverpool over the summer window. At one stage, it felt almost inevitable that the 27-year-old would go.
With Liverpool actively targeting Anthony Gordon, it had seemed as though they were ready to move on from Diaz.
However, the No.7 has begun the season revitalised under Slot. Jamie Carragher has praised Diaz as being ‘brilliant‘ and he is showing that he can still be the answer for Liverpool over the next two or three years.
Nevertheless, his current contract will end with the former Porto man being 30. As the Reds are often unhappy about offering deals to players over that age, it still feels as though if they can sell Diaz in the next year or so, then they probably will.
Consequently, we still think Diaz is slated to be on the market next summer. With interest in Gordon not going anywhere, something might have to give.
