Despite Liverpool’s superb start the season, there continues to be bit of a shadow hanging over them.
The Reds could not have done much more during their first few matches of the Premier League campaign.
Liverpool have won three games out of three under Arne Slot, scoring seven goals, conceding zero and blowing arch rivals Manchester United away at Old Trafford.
While things are going swimmingly on the field, though, off it there is a bit of a storm gathering.
Three of the most important members in the Liverpool squad – Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold – are all out of contract at the end of the campaign. Now, there is also chatter over the future of Luis Diaz, too.

Liverpool dispute Luis Diaz salary
Diaz has had a really good start to the season for Liverpool. The Colombian has three goals in three games and has looked back to his old self again.
After plenty of rumours which suggested that Diaz could have been sold over the summer window, the No.7 has stayed and reminded just about everyone of his quality.
Having stayed put at Anfield, then, rumours have started to emerge that Diaz could be in line for a new contract.
The 27-year-old’s current deal does not expire until 2027, however, and it has since been reported that Liverpool are not actively planning a new contract for Diaz.
Part of the reason an extension has been mentioned is because rumours have started floating around that Diaz is one of Liverpool’s lowest earners, on around £55k-per-week.

But speaking to The Redmen TV, journalist Paul Gorst says that Liverpool have ‘refuted’ suggestions that Diaz is on such a comparatively low wage.
“One of the things that was communicated to me was this idea that he’s one of the lowest earners at the club is not necessarily accurate,” says Gorst.
“People I’ve spoken to at Liverpool have sort of refuted the suggestion that he’s on 55 thousand pounds a week. What was relayed is that ‘his pay packet is in-line with his importance to the cause’.
“You can probably make an estimate as to what they may be, sort of around the 120 [thousand a week] mark maybe, something like that.”
Liverpool should be careful with Luis Diaz contract
Obviously, Liverpool have much bigger contract issues to worry about at the moment than Diaz’s.
With just under three years still to go for the £50m signing from Porto, there’s no surprise that Liverpool are calm about this for now.
Another reason could be that the Reds are simply not planning to offer an extension to Lucho.
He will be 30-years-old when his current deal expires and any extension would obviously see him into his early thirties. Given his output is still not quite where Liverpool might like it to be, you can understand why they are holding off.
Clearly, Diaz’s wage is also much higher than is being rumoured at the moment. A new deal would bring a pay rise and perhaps that is not something Liverpool are willing to sanction.
Quiet for now, then, but you feel that something has to give on this by next summer, really.
