Chris Sutton says what Arne Slot is already doing better at Liverpool than Jurgen Klopp ever did

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has been hugely impressive in the Anfield dugout since taking over from Jurgen Klopp.

Slot has guided Liverpool to three Premier League wins from three, helping them share a lead at the top of the table with Man City.

The Dutchman had huge boots to fill at Anfield, with Klopp having left in the summer a legend at the Merseyside club.

And in true Klopp fashion, he left Liverpool in great shape for his successor, with Slot certain to be grateful for that.

The Liverpool players are enjoying working with Slot, who has immediately hit the ground running in England.

Chris Sutton makes Arne Slot and Jurgen Klopp comparison

Slot is one of five new Premier League managers, and is the one who has enjoyed the most success at this early stage of the season.

He has certainly caught the eye of Chris Sutton, who said on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Monday Night Club: “I don’t want to go overboard about Liverpool because we are only three games in and they have beaten, with respect, Ipswich, Brentford and an awful Manchester United side. We don’t want to be getting the bunting out yet!

“The most impressive thing is that Slot has come in – understated and cool – and they have slightly changed the way they play as it is not so frantic. They were great to watch under Jurgen Klopp but there seems to be greater control.”

Do Liverpool still need a new number six?

The only area that Slot has perhaps come under some fire for is his transfer dealings, with Liverpool very inactive in the summer window.

Giorgi Mamardashvili and Federico Chiesa were signed from Valencia and Juventus respectively, but the former won’t be available until next summer.

The Reds also tried and failed to sign a new number six, with Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi rejecting a move to Anfield.

But Sutton is not worried about the position after what he has seen so far from Slot, saying: “All of the club talk in the summer transfer window was about getting a defensive midfielder in, but in the opening games all of the players who have been put there have been so intelligent.

“They have shown that the number six position will not be too much of a problem because they have talent that is adaptable.”
