What Mohamed Salah’s new role at Liverpool under Arne Slot after change spotted from Jurgen Klopp’s time

Mohamed Salah is one of the best attackers in the world, with the Liverpool winger this season proving why he’s far from past his peak.

The 32-year-old has already managed three goals and three assists in just three Premier League games, with Salah scoring and setting up two more in Sunday’s 3-0 win against English rivals Manchester United.

With Salah’s Liverpool contract yet to be resolved, there’s a real chance that this could be the Egyptian’s last year at Anfield, with Jamie Carragher placing the forward amongst the likes of Kenny Dalglish in terms of club legends.

And Steve Nicol has now shared what changes Arne Slot has made to Salah since replacing Jurgen Klopp.

Salah dropping deep and getting involved in Liverpool’s build-up

Speaking on ESPN FC, the pundit noted how Salah isn’t playing as high as he usually did under Jurgen Klopp, with the winger now more involved with the build-up and drifting less into the centre than in previous systems.

Nicol said when delving into Salah’s new role at Liverpool under Slot: “I don’t think he is quite as high and wide as he was under Klopp, and I think that’s because the full-backs aren’t as high and wide.

“Trent’s coming inside a lot more and that means that Salah can drop and probably be more involved in the build-up than he used to be. He used to be either you wanted him running in behind for that long ball or else you wanted him getting it in the final third, whereas now he seems to be more involved in the build-up.

“I don’t think we will see him too often in the middle, I don’t expect that. I certainly don’t want to see him in the middle. I prefer him in the wide. Jota, if he stays fit, seems the perfect foil for him, for what’s around him, and of course you always have Nunez to bring on.”

The idea of Salah playing deeper and not drifting in as much is something few Liverpool fans would predict to go well, yet Slot has managed to make it work in brilliant fashion this season.

The 32-year-old forward looks as dangerous as ever has for the Reds, with Salah using his brilliant efficiency to finish off chances to assist his teammates at the right moment in the final third.

And this was all summed up brilliantly against United, where Salah was a handful for the Red Devils as the attacker inspired Liverpool to another famous win at Old Trafford.
