Arne Slot shares what’s going on with Mo Salah’s contract after Liverpool forward suggests he’s about to leave

Sunday was a superb day for Liverpool supporters as they watched their team destroy Manchester United at Old Trafford.

In the end, the score line could – and perhaps should – have resembled the legendary 5-0 win in 2021/22. But three will do.

As was the case in the 5-0, Mohamed Salah was absolutely key to everything Liverpool did well against United on Sunday.

Just as he did that day in October 2021, Salah had a hand in three goals for the Reds. Two assists for Luis Diaz and a brilliantly taken finish of his own.

However, if the Egyptian’s performance on the pitch had people talking, then it was nothing compared to what Salah said after the game.

Arne Slot responds to Mohamed Salah comments

Salah has been absolutely incredible for Liverpool so far this season. Three games into the Premier League campaign, the 32-year-old has three goals and three assists.

Salah also appears to be playing with joy and freedom. The smile on his face has hardly ever been wider.

Asked about that by Sky Sports after the win over United, Salah said that he’s simply trying to enjoy what could be his last season with Liverpool.

“I had a good summer and had a long time to myself to try to stay positive because as you know it’s my last year at the club,” said the Egyptian King.

“I just want to enjoy it and I don’t want to think about it. I feel like I’m free to play football and then we’ll see what happens next year.”

Asked about Salah’s comments during his post-match press conference, Arne Slot played things as he often does; with a straight bat.

“At this moment, he is one of ours,” said the head coach. “He played really well. I don’t talk about contracts but I could talk for hours about his performance.”

What will happen with Mo Salah’s contract?

In all honesty, Salah’s comments sounded a lot more like a suggestion to the club to come and give him what he wants rather than an admission that he was set to leave.

On this kind of form, Liverpool are now really under pressure to make sure that Salah is still at the club next season.

Unfortunately, we have seen in the past that the Reds do not bow easily to such pressure. If they are steadfast in their belief that Salah should not be given another contract, then he won’t be.

However, with it obvious to just about everyone that Mo is not slowing down any time soon, they risk the real possibility of losing the Liverpool fan base should that happen.

Salah is clearly still loving life at the club and is in no rush to go anywhere else. When you have the chance to keep on the Liverpool’s best ever players around for the long-term, then you better take it. Or there’ll be trouble.
