Liverpool enjoyed their best win of the season yet with a 3-0 victory against Manchester United, with Dominik Szoboszlai again in central midfield.

The Hungarian international was part of an unchanged midfield three with Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch once again alongside Szoboszlai, with the trio again working well together to get Liverpool the three points.

With Gravenberch compared to Patrick Vieira and Mac Allister praised by Luis Diaz, it’s safe to say that the Liverpool midfield had an excellent day at the office against a United side that lacked any real quality to cause serious damage.

And pundit Steve Nicol has now shared what change Arne Slot has made to make Szoboszlai as effective as possible.

Szoboszlai given free Liverpool role after 3-0 Manchester United win

Speaking on ESPN FC, the pundit noted now Szoboszlai was given the freedom to join the attack from the midfield with Mac Allister and Gravenberch sitting back, a system that worked well against United.

Although Szoboszlai was blasted by Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher for one moment against the Red Devils, the midfielder was again impressive for Liverpool, and Nicol believes the 23-year-old’s new role could have something to do with it.

Nicol said on Szoboszlai’s new role for Liverpool: “Going forward, Szoboszlai looks as though he has got kind of a free role where Gravenberch and Mac Allister are sitting. And he has got a bit of a free role to try and get in the box and try and join in.

“So he ends up with four going forward. Diaz is the one that runs with it, Mo Salah is the one that’s looking to pierce the backline if he can, you have got Jota looking to connect things, and then you have got Szoboszlai coming on the end of stuff.”

Szoboszlai looks ready to become unleashed this season

Szoboszlai endured a mixed first year at Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp, with the headline signing from RB Leipzig struggling to find a true and defined role for himself in the Reds starting XI.

However, under Slot, Szoboszlai looks to finally have what he’s been looking for, and the Hungarian international could become unleashed at Liverpool at long last.

Every Liverpool fan is aware of what Szoboszlai can do when he’s at his best, and this new role could lead to the former Bundesliga star becoming a menace in the Premier League for the Reds.
