Liverpool managed their first win against Manchester United at Old Trafford in three years with a 3-0 win.

Luis Diaz’s first-half brace followed by Mohamed Salah’s 56th-minute strike was the difference for the Reds as Arne Slot maintained his perfect start to the new Premier League season, with Liverpool winning all three games so far and not even conceding a goal.

Had Trent Alexander-Arnold’s offside goal stood, it would have been an even bigger result for the Merseyside giants, who last tasted victory on United’s own turf back in 2021 in a famous 5-0 win against the Red Devils.

And there was one player who Jamie Carragher was star-struck by today for Liverpool.

Liverpool’s Ryan Gravenberch showered with praise after Man Utd performance

Speaking on Sky Sports coverage of the match, the Liverpool legend was in awe of Ryan Gravenberch’s performance at Old Trafford, with the Dutch midfielder running the show for the Reds against United.

With Jurgen Klopp pleased with how Gravenberch has performed this season, the former Bayern Munich star once again made a serious claim as to why he should be Liverpool’s new starting defensive midfielder, and Carragher was impressed with how the youngster performed.

Carragher said on Gravenberch’s performance against United: “Spoke about Gravenberch before the game. We have seen this four or five times in the game. He just opens those legs up and runs away from people.

“It is almost Vieira-like. I didn’t want to get too carried away after the first two games considering the opposition, but I said this would be an acid test. He has certainly come through with flying colours, Gravenberch, in that role.”

Gravenberch is finally starting to show his potential with the Reds

Gravenberch was signed last year for £34m with plenty of hype, yet under Klopp, the Ajax academy graduate failed to live up to the heights many expected from the Dutch international in his first season in England.

Yet early signs this campaign have been more than promising, with Gravenberch taking his game to a who new level under Slot and finally looking like a player who could become something special in this Liverpool squad.

And Gravenberch’s performance against United was easily the 22-year-old’s best yet since joining Liverpool, with the midfielder on the right path to stardom with the Reds.
