Liverpool are gearing up for a big game in the Premier League this weekend as they face Manchester United.

The Reds have had a good start to the league season so far, winning two games out of two.

However, heading to Old Trafford is a very different prospect than Ipswich and Brentford and will be Arne Slot’s first big test as Liverpool head coach.

In order to pass that test, it will be important that Slot has as many of his first-team squad available as possible.

As of Thursday afternoon, Federico Chiesa is now part of that Liverpool squad. And the 26-year-old has now suggested when he could make his debut for his new club.

Federico Chiesa shares fitness update

In a whirlwind few days, Chiesa has now become the latest star in Liverpool’s fantastic attacking line-up.

Slot now has six forwards who any club across Europe would love to have on their books. There is some serious firepower at Anfield.

It remains to be seen quite how Chiesa fits into that, but the Italian certainly seems keen to get started.

In a brilliant first interview with LFCTV, Chiesa outlines exactly why he joined Liverpool and shares conversations with both Slot and sporting director Richard Hughes.

“It’s been a great day and I’m so happy to be a Liverpool player,” says the former Juventus man.

“When Richard Hughes called me and said to do you want to join Liverpool and the coach called me, I said yes immediately because I know the history of this club, I know what it represents to the fans and I’m so happy to get started.”

Asked for when he would be fit and ready to play for Liverpool, Chiesa was adamant that he is completely ready to go whenever Slot gives him the word.

“As soon as the coach tells me I can play, I can play,” smiles the winger. “No problem!”

Will Federico Chiesa play against Man United?

Chiesa really does look like the cat who got the cream in his first interview with Liverpool.

It’s clear that the Euro 2020 winner is absolutely delighted to have joined the Reds and can’t wait to get started.

However, his enthusiasm may just have to be tempered a little bit. With no injuries that we know of to forward players, it seems unlikely that Slot will throw Chiesa in against United.

If he trains well between now and Sunday, then there’s perhaps a chance for Liverpool’s new No.14 to make the bench, though, so that’s what supporters will be hoping for.

The good news is that after a series of bad injuries over the past few years, Fede is healthy and well and getting straight down to work.
