Liverpool look set to move a couple of fringe players out before Friday’s transfer deadline.

The Reds have left things late in the window in terms of both incoming and outgoing deals.

Nevertheless, business has started to finally ramp up this week. Giorgi Mamardashvili was signed from Valencia, while Federico Chiesa is set to join Liverpool from Juventus.

Liverpool supporters will be hoping that there may well be something else in the pipeline over the next 24 hours, too.

As for outgoings, the Reds have perhaps not been as busy as expected. But having already signed Bobby Clark, former Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders has been pushing for another Reds player to join RB Salzburg.

Pep Lijnders desperate for Stefan Bajcetic signing

Lijnders has made a really good start to life as a manager with Salzburg.

With three wins out of three in the Bundesliga, a win in the cup and qualification for the Champions League secured, Lijnders is showing why he has such a big reputation across Europe.

For Liverpool, there are also obvious benefits to having their long-time former assistant in charge at the Red Bull club.

Salzburg are well known as one of the best clubs on the continent for developing young talent. If Liverpool can tap into that in any way then it can only be a good thing.

And with Clark already sold permanently to the Austrian side, it had been reported that Stefan Bajcetic is due to join Salzburg on loan as well.

However, Barcelona came in with shock late move for Bajcetic, throwing the move into doubt. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, though, Lijnders has been key in ensuring the Spaniard joins him instead.

“Pep Lijnders, the Salzburg manager and former assistant of Jurgen Klopp, has been calling Bajcetic all day long – he’s been fighting to get the player and to present the project to him in the best way possible,” Romano says via his Daily Briefing.

Where is Stefan Bajcetic going?

You can understand why both of these loan options would be appealing to Bajcetic. Working with Lijnders again at Salzburg speaks for itself, really, but the pull of Barca is really strong, too.

Being a Spaniard, it would likely be a real dream of Stefan’s to move to the Camp Nou.

However, we think the 19-year-old is far better off heading to a club where he can get back to playing week in, week out away from the spotlight.

Thankfully, as Romano reports on Thursday morning, that is the decision that has ultimately been made. Lijnders’ charm offensive has been successful.

“Sefan Bajcetic to RB Salzburg, here we go!” says the transfer expert. “No chance for Barcelona even with attempts overnight.” Per Romano, Bajcetic will have his medical later on Thursday before signing.
