Daniel Sturridge left ‘genuinely shocked’ about recent transfer developments at Liverpool

Liverpool are running out of time in which to turn their transfer window into a positive one.

The Reds have so far failed to address the areas of weakness in their squad with new signings, despite having three months or so to do it.

Barring a late, late surprise at either centre-back or in defensive midfield, it does look like Arne Slot will head into at least the first-half of the season a little undercooked.

That doesn’t mean that Liverpool aren’t doing anything, though. The Reds have made a surprise move to bring Federico Chiesa to Anfield from Juventus.

And reacting to the news that Chiesa is set to become Liverpool’s sixth senior attacker, former Reds striker Daniel Sturridge has given his reaction.

Daniel Sturridge admits to Federico Chiesa ‘shock’

Chiesa is inarguably an exciting signing for Liverpool. Although some will feel that he is not exactly what Slot needs right now, the Italian is a player who gets bums off seats.

While it’s true that Liverpool already have a number of those in the first-team squad, there is always room for one more, especially at such a bargain price.

The fee itself is what makes the deal to sign Chiesa look like a potential masterstroke from Liverpool.

There have been claims that Liverpool simply felt the chance to sign Chiesa was too good to turn down. Having reportedly agreed a fee of £10.9m with Juventus, you can see why.

Sturridge also appears to feel the same. Taking to X on Wednesday evening, the 34-year-old praised directors Michael Edwards and Julian Ward, while also sharing what he thinks Chiesa will bring to the Reds attack.

“Chiesa to Liverpool is a top tier signing,” Sturridge raves.

“Really good 1v1 , pace , tenacious and can finish. Genuinely shocked at the price tag,. Mike and Jools strike again lol…”

When will Liverpool unveil Federico Chiesa

Chiesa was spotted at the airport on Wednesday afternoon as he sent a message to fans before making his way to Liverpool.

After everything was agreed between the clubs, the Italy international will have likely been undergoing medical tests during the rest of the day.

Following that, there is still plenty of time left in the window. And we think Reds supporters can perhaps expect to see an official announcement and unveiling from the club on Thursday.

From there, it will be interesting to see what squad number he picks. In our estimations, there are three shirt numbers available to Chiesa at Liverpool.

With the prospect of more deals potentially breaking on Thursday, it is all set to be an exciting day at Anfield.
