Liverpool are entering the final few days of the transfer window in real need of a signing or two.
The Reds have so far failed to make a new addition to help them during their first season under Arne Slot.
The signing of Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia looks like a good one for Liverpool in the future, but the feeling is that they still need more to help the first-team squad right now.
In the meantime, the Reds continue to be busy with outgoings. Happily, it doesn’t look as though Joe Gomez is going anywhere, but other players are set to be moved on.
Liverpool don’t want to deplete the group too much, though. There has too be some give and some take. And as a result, they are now pushing ahead to make a signing which few had seen coming.

Federico Chiesa too good to pass up for Liverpool
The areas of Liverpool’s team that could do with an upgrade are relatively plain to those who watch them on a regular basis.
First and foremost, the Reds need an elite player in the middle of the pitch. Secondly, Liverpool would be wise to refresh things a little bit at centre-back.
The Reds could be set to ignore these needs, however, in favour of signing another forward. Juventus winger Federico Chiesa is a target for Liverpool.
Chiesa’s potential move to Anfield comes as a surprise for more reasons than one. But according to journalist Graeme Bailey, Liverpool see the possibility to sign the 26-year-old as being too good to turn down.
“From what I’m told the deal might just be too good not to do,” Bailey exclusively tells Rousing The Kop. “I think he’s going to be really cheap, it could be less than £15m.

“If they get the chance to add someone like Chiesa, then I don’t necessarily think it’s to the detriment of somebody else. It’s too good a deal not to look at.”
In terms of how possible the deal itself will be to do, the reporter says that things are currently progressing.
“I’m told that the talks are ongoing,” says Bailey. “I think the interest is perhaps even stronger than what has been reported. They do like him a lot and on those terms I think they’re going to push ahead with it.
“They’re a little bit wary that they might see something bumped up somewhere or it’s not quite as good as it seems. But it is progressing.”
Where could Federico Chiesa fit in at Liverpool?
While it is understandable that Liverpool see Chiesa as being a big opportunity on the market, it does beg the question of longer-term planning.
The Reds may have had the Italian in mind all summer long and have waited for his price to drop right towards the end of the window. But there was also the possibility that Chiesa would go elsewhere before that happened.
As a result, it is a little tricky to see what the long-term strategy is here for Liverpool.
Having said that, we think Chiesa would be a very good addition for Slot. The Euro 2020 winner is versatile, quick, direct and experienced.
For what £15m can get you these days, the Juventus man could end up being a genuinely excellent bargain. As a back-up across the front line – and perhaps more for Mohamed Salah on the right – you won’t find better for anything like that fee.
