Liverpool are running out of time if they are to make any additions during this summer’s transfer window.
The Reds have so far been frustrated in their attempts to make new signings, with top target Martin Zubimendi rejecting their advances.
While there is said to be no alternative to Zubimendi for Liverpool in terms of a midfield signing, there are still other areas of the first-team squad that need attention.
The defence is perhaps top of that list, but with reports that Liverpool are targeting Marc Guehi, for example, there is hope that something will get sorted there.
Some at Liverpool would also like to see an extra option brought into the attack. And it now appears that the Reds could look at a late move to solve that, too.

Liverpool looking at Ademola Lookman signing
Although Arne Slot is currently pretty well stocked in attack, there has been a feeling throughout the summer that Liverpool could still do something in the market.
Anthony Gordon has been heavily linked and there was obviously interest on Liverpool’s part in doing that deal.
However, with Gordon commanding a huge price-tag, it had always seemed like a long-shot this summer.
If Liverpool are to do anything, it feels a bit more likely that they’d bring in a back-up option who could supplement what they already have.

In that regard, a move for Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman could make sense. The 26-year-old is a versatile option who would perhaps not expect to be a nailed-on starter.
And according to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Liverpool are indeed looking into signing Lookman.
Pedulla’s information does not have the Reds down as favourites to sign the Nigerian. He claims that Arsenal are already poised to offer Atalanta around £43m plus a possible player exchange for Lookman.
However, the Reds are said to be ‘in the background’ in what is described as a ‘very hot situation.’ Lookman reportedly missed training on Wednesday as he prepares for a move away, with Atalanta looking to recoup £55-60m for him.
Should Liverpool push for Lookman?
Lookman is perhaps not a signing who would get pulses racing at Anfield. The former Everton man has hardly lit up the Premier League in the past and he’s had several cracks it it.
Nevertheless, at 26, he is now coming into his prime. A stunning hat-trick in the Europa League final last season signalled the potential he has to unlock.
Furthermore, Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham said he’s a ‘big fan’ of Lookman after Madrid beat Atalanta in the Super Cup last week.
There is clear quality there and Lookman could certainly add something unpredictable to the Liverpool attack.
But at the kind of price Atalanta are looking for, we think we’re better off leaving this to Arsenal.
