Liverpool could soon complete their first deal of what has been an especially frustrating transfer window.
The Reds are running the risk of becoming just the second club in Premier League history not to sign a player during the summer off-season.
Despite some areas of the Liverpool squad being in clear need of an upgrade, the Reds have so far stayed inactive in the market.
One area that is currently well-stocked is in goal. Liverpool are not desperately in need of a new goalkeeper. Nevertheless, that looks like exactly what they could be getting, with claims that Giorgi Mamardashvili could complete a move to Liverpool within days.
As the surprise transfer draws ever nearer, former Reds midfielder Danny Murphy has shared what he learned about Mamardashvili during Euro 2024.

Danny Murphy gives Giorgi Mamardashvili verdict
Although it is pleasing to see Liverpool finally do a bit of business this summer, the Mamardashvili transfer is a little difficult to get too excited about.
By all accounts, the 23-year-old will head out on-loan – most likely with current club Valencia – before rocking up at Anfield in a year or even two.
With other position such as defence and midfield more in need of immediate attention, the transfer is a bit of a head-scratcher from Liverpool.
Nevertheless, there is certainly reason to be pleased that Mamardashvili could soon be a Liverpool player.

The big goalkeeper really put himself on the map during a fine Euros with Georgia this summer.
Murphy was certainly impressed. And speaking to TalkSPORT about what he saw out in Germany, the pundit claims that Mamardashvili’s signing could be ‘a great bit of business’ for his old club.
“I was fortunate to see him at the Euros, I didn’t know much about him until I saw him,” says Murphy. “He was in incredible form in the Euros.
“Big presence, good at the normal stuff, shot-stopping and all that, decent with his feet. He’s six [feet] four, six five or something. I think that’s a great bit of business getting him in. He’s a super keeper.”
What does it all mean for Alisson?
Part of the reason Liverpool supporters may be finding it difficult to get excited for Mamardashvili is because of what it means for Alisson.
Funnily, if the Georgian wasn’t such a good ‘keeper, perhaps this would not be a factor. But as testimonies like Murphy’s go to show, Mamardashvili is a first choice goalie in the making.
As a result, it’s clear that he won’t be coming to Liverpool to play back-up. That means that Alisson is now on borrowed time.
While it has been asserted that Alisson is going nowhere this summer, it does leave an open question over his role beyond the end of the season.
It’s nice to know that if this deal gets over the line as expected, Liverpool will be getting an excellent player for the future. But we’re just not ready to say goodbye to our big Brazilian.
