Liverpool’s transfer window is waiting to spark into life with the Reds yet to make a first-team signing.
The Reds are in fact the only team in Europe’s current top five leagues not to have added to their squad this summer.
There are circumstances to take into consideration there. No other club has had to deal with the loss of a figure like Jurgen Klopp. Liverpool’s transition away from Klopp was always likely to take time.
Nevertheless, it can’t really be disguised that the Reds’ market has been a failure so far. Not giving Arne Slot a single new player to work with ahead of the new season would be unforgivable in the eyes of many.
In fairness to FSG, they are trying. However, reports of Liverpool’s interest in Giorgi Mamardashvili has only posed more questions than answers so far.

What’s going on with Alisson and Giorgi Mamardashvili
After Liverpool missed out on signing Martin Zubimendi, most fans would have expected the Reds to go back in for another midfielder.
But despite a bit of a hole in the Liverpool squad in holding midfield, it has been claimed there was no alternative to Zubimendi.
Instead, it looks very likely that the Reds are going to go with what they have in midfield at least until January.
That doesn’t mean that there is not business to do elsewhere for Liverpool, though. With Caoimhin Kelleher and Alisson Becker still on board, however, this had not expected to be at goalkeeper.
But while Kelleher looks like he’s staying put and Alisson has said no to move to Saudi Arabia, interest in Mamardashvili has raised questions over what is going on with that pair.

Given the Georgian’s quality as a potential number one, some supporters will be worried over Alisson especially.
Thankfully, journalist David Lynch has cleared up that although there is interest in Mamardashvili, it is not in light of Alisson going anywhere. Speaking on Anfield Agenda, Lynch explained the situation.
“Mamardashvili, I don’t think that story’s quite dead yet,” says the reporter. “Definite interest on Liverpool’s side, I can absolutely confirm that.
“Whether they follow that through and get that signing done this summer we’ll have to see because there’s absolutely no expectation that there’ll be an opening for a goalkeeper this summer. Alisson is going nowhere I can absolutely confirm that.”
Will Alisson leave next summer?
It had looked for a time as though Alisson may be heading out the door this off-season. With all the uncertainty following Klopp’s exit, there seemed a genuine chance of that happening.
In truth, that would have been just about as a big a blow as Slot could have had. The Brazilian is for our money the very best goalie in the world.
However, Liverpool are clearly interested in Mamardashvili. Although Alisson is staying for the time being, that does beg the question of what’s going on in his medium and long-term future.
Bringing in a goalkeeper like Mamardashvili would surely be with a view to him being No.1. The price-tag being talked about is between £25-35m. You don’t pay that for a back-up ‘keeper.
So, whether the deal for the Valencia man gets done or not, we would argue that even interest from Liverpool suggests that Alisson’s time at the club is now ticking down. And that’s a deeply upsetting thought.
