Liverpool have plenty to sort out internally as the new Premier League season speeds into view.
There are now just two days to go until the Reds take on Ipswich Town in their opener for the 2024/25 season.
In truth, Liverpool look relatively well prepared on the pitch. Things have been going well under Arne Slot in pre-season and you’d imagine that the plan for Saturday has now been formulated.
However, off the pitch, it is a bit of a different story. While the Liverpool squad does look strong heading into the new campaign, the current transfer window has been a bit of a disaster. Not a single signing has been made.
And then there’s the contract situations of three enormous players. Trent Alexander-Arnold is perhaps the most precarious and the 25-year-old has now made a decision which doesn’t sound like great news for fans.

Trent Alexander-Arnold makes contract decision
Alexander-Arnold is set to be one of Slot’s big players this season. The academy graduate hopefully started as he means to go on last Sunday, with a delightful assist for Diogo Jota at Anfield.
But the better Trent looks on the pitch, the more worried supporters will become that they are about to lose him.
With less than one year now left on his contract, there is a very real chance that the Scouser is preparing for a final season with his boyhood club.
Hope should remain that that is not the case, with Robbie Fowler the latest to plead with Alexander-Arnold to make him stay with the Reds.

But the fact remains that we’re now deep into August and Trent is still due to leave the club at the end of the season. There has been no good news to report.
And according to the Liverpool ECHO, that could be the way things stay.
They claim that Alexander-Arnold is ‘determined’ that talks of an extension between he and Liverpool are not ‘played out publicly.’
It’s claimed that the decision has been made ‘out of respect for his boyhood club’ and Liverpool’s No.66 will instead make sure that everything is handled behind closed doors.
What does this mean for Trent’s future?
In all honesty, this does not sound like a particularly encouraging update about Alexander-Arnold and his new contract.
Obviously, there is a chance that it may mean nothing. Few players want contract discussions to enter into the public realm and become cases of ‘he said, she said.’
But at the same time, if Alexander-Arnold were completely happy and ready to sign a new deal at Liverpool, then there should not be a danger of that happening anyway.
That Trent is trying to keep respectful of Liverpool and all the while a contract has not been signed, that would suggest that he is starting to think about being on the way out, but wants to do it peacefully and without drama.
The longer this saga drags on, you’d have to say the more likely it looks that the Reds could be about to lose one of their genuine superstars. Let’s hope for something more positive soon.
