Liverpool have stepped up their activity in the market in a big way this month, yet the Reds could be set for their first blow in the window.

Martin Zubimendi is reportedly close to joining Liverpool, with Brentford also reaching an agreement to sign Fabio Carvalho for an impressive £27m, two deals that have seen the Reds explode onto the transfer scene.

With Adam Wharton also on Liverpool’s radar, there’s a real chance that the Anfield side could end the window with a flurry of activity, with new signings needed and a number of players in need of being shipped off this August.

Yet one rumoured Liverpool target now looks set to join Borussia Dortmund.

Borussia Dortmund ‘confident’ in beating Liverpool to Maximilian Beier

According to Fabrizio Romano, Dortmund believe they can complete a deal to sign Maximilian Beier soon, with Liverpool recently linked with the Germany international as a potential attacking signing.

Romano said on Dortmund’s pursuit for Beier: “Borussia Dortmund are confident to get Maxi Beier deal done soon with Hoffenheim, talks progressing. Personal terms already agreed as reported earlier this week.”

Hailed as ‘incredible’ via the Bundesliga’s official website, the £26m-rated attacker would have been quite the signing for Liverpool in their bid to find forward signings that could replace the likes of Mohamed Salah.

Yet with Dortmund firmly in the lead to sign Beier, Liverpool’s quest to bring the striker to Merseyside is one that looks to be done before it’s even started, with the German set to remain in the Bundesliga.

Beier could have been Liverpool’s next attacking sensation

With question marks still surrounding Darwin Nunez and the likes of Luis Diaz and Salah rumoured with moves away, a new attacking could have been welcome at Liverpool this summer.

And Beier might have been the one to take Liverpool into the next generation under Slot, with the Germany international a truly incredible talent who could have thrived at Anfield with the Dutch coach.

Yet as we now know, it’s Dortmund who have won the race for Beier, and the German side might have landed a potential bargain in the Hoffenheim striker, who could take his game to a new level with the Bundesliga giants.
