Liverpool are starting to get busy in the transfer window following a period of determined silence.
The Reds had looked one or two players short throughout last season under Jurgen Klopp, but have so far chosen not to address those weaknesses.
With Arne Slot joining and being keen to take a look at the Liverpool squad before making any decisions, that has been quite understandable.
However, the new head coach knows what he’s dealing with by now and Liverpool need to make sure the holes are plugged before August the 30th.
Firstly, Slot has decided that he’d like a new midfielder for the Reds and Liverpool are targeting Martin Zubimendi as a result. But the Spaniard reportedly isn’t the only one on the shortlist.

Liverpool plotting Adam Wharton swoop
Zubimendi looks like a perfect signing for Liverpool if they can pull it off. The 25-year-old appears to have everything Slot is asking for in a midfielder.
Calm on the ball, incredibly press resistant and capable of making a difference further up the pitch, too, Zubimendi is similar to Alexis Mac Allister in many ways.
The thought of the European champion and the conqueror of the Americas this summer lining up for Liverpool next season is an enticing one.
However, Zubimendi is still trying to decide if he wants to join Liverpool. As things stand, the move hangs in the balance.

Should the Spain international say ‘no’ to the Reds, then they’ll have to draw up another plan. According to some reports, Liverpool have no alternative to Zubimendi and would instead head into the campaign with what they have.
Some have disputed that, though, with claims that Liverpool have asked about Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle emerging on Friday.
And according to TeamTALK, Bruno is not the only other midfielder the Reds are keen to sign.
They claim that Liverpool are planning a ‘swoop’ for Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton. Aside from that Manchester United are also said to be doing the same, no further details are given just yet.
Adam Wharton should be target for 2025
If Liverpool don’t get Zubimendi over the line, then there is a case to be made for turning to someone like Wharton. Firstly, though, it should be pointed out that TeamTALK do not suggest that the two deals are linked.
Furthemore, we’d be minded to play it a little cool over the 20-year-old. Having only arrived at Crystal Palace for £22m in January, he needs a little longer to prove himself in our opinion.
He is obviously a tidy player, with Declan Rice describing Wharton as having a ‘beautiful left foot‘ while the pair were away with England at Euro 2024.
But the price to get him out of Palace now would surely be enormous. Besides, we think Tyler Morton could be Liverpool’s very own Wharton if given a chance this season.
So, while we like the idea of the youngster one day strutting his at Anfield, we don’t think it should necessarily be in the immediate future.
