Liverpool are trying to get some business done after going through a summer with no activity so far.

It has been a period of change for the Reds, with Arne Slot coming in to replace Jurgen Klopp.

As well as Klopp heading out the Anfield exit door, there has been massive turnover in the coaching staff at Liverpool, with the players having to get used to a new way of working.

As a result, transfers were perhaps the last thing on anyone’s mind during the first couple of months of the Slot era.

With things finally settling down and everyone bedding in, though, attention has turned to how Liverpool can bolster their first-team squad.

Liverpool have high hopes for Martin Zubimendi

Although fans are always keen to feel the excitement of new transfers coming in, in truth little needs doing for Liverpool to remain competitive.

There are plenty of young players in the Reds squad who will have improved once again this summer, while the depth of quality should be enough to challenge across numerous competitions.

Nevertheless, there is always room for improvement. And after watching his new group over the past month or so, Slot has seemingly decided that more can be gotten from his midfield.

Consequently Liverpool are trying to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad.

The deal has not been an easy one to complete, with Zubimendi weighing up whether to leave his boyhood club.

However, according to The Independent, an end could now be in sight. They claim that the 25-year-old could make a final decision between Liverpool and Real Sociedad by Monday.

From Liverpool’s side, they are said to be ‘hopeful’ of Zubimendi choosing to join, but reportedly do not see that as being a guarantee for the moment.

For Sociedad, they are claimed to be desperate to keep hold of the Spaniard. La Real are said to see Zubimendi as the ‘jewel in their team’ and think he could get even better in the future.

Liverpool reportedly believe the same and it’s claimed that there is a view that Zubimendi could develop into being one of the best defensive midfielders in the world.

Real Sociedad fans devastated over Martin Zubimendi

There’s little question that some Liverpool fans will be growing bored of waiting for Zubimendi to make his decision.

However, this little nugget of information shows exactly why the Reds have been prepared to be so patient with the Euro 2024 winner.

Zubimendi is good now, but he also has the potential to become even better under Slot’s tutelage. Liverpool know that and that’s why they are holding firm in the face of the pressure on Zubimendi to stay.

Another who recognises the potential of the player is Barcelona legend Xavi, who called Zubimendi ‘more physical and faster‘ than Sergio Busquets.

Fans of Real Sociedad are said to be devasted at the possibility of Zubimendi leaving and derailing their season. With all of that going on around him, it’s fair that the player wants to take his time. Patience will hopefully pay off for Liverpool.
