What Arne Slot has been doing at Liverpool as two signings eyed in the same position

Liverpool could be in for a busy end to the transfer window this summer.

There are now just three weeks remaining in which the Reds can make additions to their first-team squad.

Having done no business at all so far, Liverpool are now going to have to cram a whole transfer market into a matter of days.

There is work for the Reds to do. The Liverpool squad is certainly good enough to be competitive again and looks somewhat refreshed for having Arne Slot take over as head coach.

But without anything new added to the group, there’s a danger that Liverpool’s shortcomings simply repeat themselves. Thankfully, it sounds like Slot is guarding against that happening.

Liverpool targeting two new forwards

The Reds may have taken a while to get going, but it seems like things might finally start to get exciting over the next week or two.

First things first, Liverpool are trying to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad. The midfielder is currently weighing up whether or not to leave his boyhood club for the Reds.

We think that Zubimendi looks like the perfect fit for what Slot wants to do in the Liverpool midfield and it will be a hugely exciting transfer if it gets over the line.

However, there is only so much furore a defensive midfield addition can ignite amongst a fanbase. If you wanted to get supporters excited, then signing forwards is the way to do it.

And according to The Independent’s ‘Reading The Game‘ newsletter, that’s exactly what Slot is planning to do.

In fact, it’s claimed that the Dutchman is aiming for double the excitement, and could even bring in two new attackers before the deadline.

As Liverpool aim to tie up the Zubimendi deal, Slot has reportedly been ‘assessing his options’ in the forward line. This is said to have led him to the conclusion that radical change may be needed.

Consequently, it’s claimed that Liverpool’s recruitment team ‘have been instructed to look at a range of different options’ as Slot aims to add a new attacking pair to his squad.

Who could Liverpool’s attacking targets be?

Before Zubimendi, the most concrete target for Liverpool this summer had been Anthony Gordon.

Unsurprisingly, Gordon is named by The Independent as being one of the players who Liverpool hold interest in.

However, the paper do not mention anyone other than the 23-year-old.

If Liverpool are indeed to sign two attackers in what is left of this summer, then it stands to reason that one of them would be Gordon.

The other remains a bit of a mystery. Johan Bakayoko has been heavily linked, though, and as a right-sided forward, our money would be on the Belgian. An exciting few weeks ahead, Reds!
