Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has been hitting the headlines this summer ahead of the new season.

Kelleher is among four Liverpool players who could leave late in the transfer window, having largely played second fiddle during his Reds career.

Liverpool want Kelleher for the new season, but the goalkeeper may have other plans for his future in the game.

The Republic of Ireland international has impressed when given game time, particularly last season under Jurgen Klopp.

But given the presence of Alisson, Kelleher has often been second choice during his lengthy stay at Liverpool.

The Ireland ace has, however, been busy under Arne Slot in pre-season, with Alisson enjoying an extended break after his Brazil exploits.

Kelleher started all three matches on the USA tour, with the goalkeeper now explaining what Slot asked of the team before the last match against Manchester United.

“He did say it has been three days since our last game, it was a good win against Arsenal, but we need to follow that up because it is going to be like that the whole season,” Kelleher told the Liverpool website.

“Every three days we will have a game, so his main message was to back up that performance against Arsenal with this one.”

What role will Caoimhin Kelleher play for Liverpool?

Despite his lack of appearances over the years, Kelleher is a firm favourite at Anfield, with fans appreciating his efforts.

He has clearly helped push Alisson all the way in terms of the starting spot, while he has hugely impressed when filling in for the Brazilian.

The number one missed plenty of matches in Klopp’s final season in the dugout, with Kelleher slotting in effortlessly.

He may, however, have bigger ambitions at this stage of his career, with the 25-year-old perhaps wanting to be a number one elsewhere.

Kelleher will also be eager to land the number one jersey with Ireland without any complications, and that may not happen if he continues on Merseyside.
